Mystery Of The Disappearing Clutch Fluid(Read 723 times)
Mystery Of The Disappearing Clutch Fluid on: September 04, 2019, 01:43:45 PM
Hey from Ontario, in the Great White North.
I bought this bike from a dude in Illinois in 2006 and he got it from the original owner, his uncle, who lives in Texas.
Had only 20,000 miles. Now has 31,000.
Looks and rides like brand  new.
I've not had it on the road (legally or for more than 2 miles at a time, 3 or 4 times a summer) since 2011.
It's stored in a garage, out of the elements (see pic) and I keep it tuned etc.
Problem:
Last summer, when I went out to run it for the first time, my clutch reservoir was nearly empty but: No leaks anywhere.
Not a drop.
So I bled and refilled the system and it was fine.
This year, 1st week of June, I put the battery in and cranked it up.
Everything was fine, other than some fluid film smoke coming out from inside the exhaust pipes.
2nd ride in late July, 2 miles, it was fine.
Yesterday:
Down by over half and below the "Low" line.
Again: No drips, no leaks, no cracked lines but the fluid is gone.
What the serious hell?

Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanx!
PS: I should note that our winters get COLD here (as in -50) but I've never had this issue with any other bike or vehicle.

Looking at your last photo the fluid went to your license plate and caught fire.

Draining into your crankcase, this is shaft drive? dripping into the shaft? Never been into one of these or had a bike with hydraulic clutch.

Beautiful bike though.
