I will let the more knowledgeable members suggest but fixing the roughness of your engin could take care of it.

As a rule of thumb, I could normally put 2.5 gallons in once it hit reserve. If you are getting 40 miles per gallon (2 gal. = 80 miles) that would be in the ball park, as I avg around 38 MPG, others who stay out of the throttle avg higher. I would only hit reserve early 77-80 miles if tooling down the highway in the 90 mph range with a windshield but that would be using 2.5 gallons not 2 gallons. I would normally hit reserve around 95 miles.

There are 2 black caps on the right side of the motor. The top larger cap is the Fill hole, down below that is a smaller cap, that would be the Dipstick attached to the cap. If you do not have a dipstick attached to the smaller cap, you will need to purchase one as stated previously.

I wonder if your petcock is the stock petcock? The Main On tube inside could stick up higher inside the tank......The last part of the tank does take a slow fill as it splashes out easily. I plan to eventually drill a hole in the neck on the high side to assist in filling the tank faster and closer to the top.

Have you put Seafoam in the tank yet?

Im not sure if its the stock pedcock, i think it is. Its all black with lettering in white. I have not yet put sea foam in the tank. Where can i get it and what will it do for her?

I imagine that your mileage will improve when you get your fuel system cleaned up and it's running smooth again. My reserve depends on how tight I pack the tank when I fuel up, also where and how hard I ride. I have hit reserve at a little over 80 miles and sometimes up to 110 miles. If anything likes to have the soot blown out, it's the Magna. Sometimes a new set of plugs, a fresh tank of gas and some serious highway miles will do a world of good 8).. O'Reilly's has Sea Foam and you can find a parts break down for the petcock, on the Honda Parts Direct website.

reserve at about 80 miles only if  you live at 8.5K rpm's.  On a average I would get 110-130 to reserve.

If he is only putting in 2 gallons and getting 80 miles, then that is pretty normal mileage, at 40 mpg.

When I fuel up I sit on the bike holding it upright and make sure I get it completely full.

When checking your oil level, make sure the bike is on level ground and off the kickstand level, pull dipstick out clean off and reinsert but do NOT screw in, then check measurement.  I am very happy with Mobil 1 MX4T (4T I believe it is now named) synthetic motorcycle oil, gets me twice the miles between oil changes.

I'm with you, Greg.  I don't think there is a problem with the fuel mileage, but something is amiss.  Either the tank is not getting filled fully, or the reserve tube is too high making it go on reserve too early.

I agree that is why I was commenting it should be about 2.8 to fill from reserve not 2.

I know for me the worst I have ever gotten was 95 miles at reserve and it was the trip back from Temple and we were keeping it around 7.5 - 8K range.   :)

7.5 to 8 k is that stock gearing because if it is man you were doing about 90 to 100 mph   LOL at 5k with stock gearing I am doing 75 mph and I get about 95 to 98 til reserve depending on how heavy handed I am in between
