To get clearcoat off easily use Aircraft stripper.  It is an aerosol can and very flammable, but it works awesome.  The last can I bought was at WalMart in the automotive paint section.  Make sure you use it in a well ventilated area.  The fumes are strong.

No, use Dad's also from Wal-Mart it's in a refillable spray bottle and it's better!!
