I changed oil in both the Super and the Valk and used the new Valvoline 4-stroke Motorcycle specific oil.  Safe for wet clutch!
It is not synthetic, I figure if I change my oil every 3K then why spend the extra money.
I am about 1500 into the oil change with the new oil and all seems to be just great.  The Valk has always made a little noise when shifting at lower speeds, it is still there but diminished a fair bit.
I happy with it and the cost was around $2.25 if memory serves me, not bad.

NOOOO not another oil thread!!!! LOL

Seriously though, good find.  I run synthetic (Mobile 1 MX4T) because it quiets the tranny whine in the Valk.  Although it's not an issue with the Magna (tranny whine) I use the same.  Even at $7.00 per quart the difference in yearly cost for oil is trivial compared to other expenses.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on using motorcycle specific oil in wet clutch or common gearcase bikes.  There are automotive oils that are safe and lots of folks use them with good result, but the field is ripe for confusion and the consequences are too serious for me to be comfortable with using or preaching it.  For saving money??? NOT!  For showing those oil companies I won't be taken???  That's not me.

If I wanted to save money on oil, I would go the same route as you instead of using automotive synthetic oil.  Not saying the others are wrong, it's just not my preference.

BTW......my Honda dealer stocks MX4T..........$12.00 per quart!!!!!........Sheesh, who is THAT gullible????

I have used  the 5W40 Rotella Synthitic from Wally World for a number of years now.I picked up on this from Dave Dodge. It is very inexpensive and has allways done a good job and the clunk in the transmission went away on the V65 and the Wing. The way I ride, I feel like I need the best that I can get in that engine. After it has 3000 miles on it, I drain it and then use it in the 10 hp lawnmower style engines that I have on the Pest Control Trucks. I am able to cheat the maximum lifetime expectancy on the small engines this way. They will just about run 3 times longer than their expected lifetime.
I buy Rotella by the Case. The next oil change, let me know and I will give you a gallon to try. I think you will like it also. I also have used and continue to use the $2.50 filter at Wally World. It is rated Higher than most including the Honda filter.
I am sure that there is better oil out there but if there is, I wonder how much better. ?? I don't buy the Honda oil or filters because if they were that great, I am sure we would have allready seen BMW and Mercedes, and Lexus oil and filters in the Parts Stores and Dealerships. I'm sure it is good stuff but I feel a little gouge when I have to pay what I feel is too much for anything.
Anyway ---- my opinion!
