Favorite-Brew Key...Cool?

Hi, All- I thought I'd throw another idea out there that others might want to use/modify, etc.:

A month or so ago I made a key for my Kewlock (for Kuryakyn ISO grips) helmet-lock from a Corona bottle cap. You can see from the first pic that it attaches to the outside of my thigh-pack via a magnet.

The graphics on the caps are kinda fragile and scratch easily so I shot it with automotive clear-coat before working on it. Of course, I let it dry. I then snipped and filed a half-round section so the key would sit flush. Actually, I jacked-up the first one so I had to drink another beer...argh! ;)

I took 3, roughly 1/8"x1/2"x3/16" Neodymium bar magnets (very strong for their size) and placed them inside the Corona cap.

I put the key on top of the magnets and checked the fit. I filed out a little more so the key was flush to the bottom/outside (not sure how to say that...the pics should make it clear).

I shot it with a few more coats of clear-coat for a little extra protection. I then used High Temp High Strength hot glue and gooed it all together. It was pretty cool because the magnets held it all in place while it glues-up.

I had my girl sew me a little pouch out of some leftover material. I inserted a roughly 7/8"x1/2" Neodymium disk magnet and had her sew it shut.

I hand-sewed the pouch to the inside of my thigh pack with white thread so just in case I had to take it out for "whatever reason" (I think you know what I'm talking about) :) I could do it without wrecking my pack. It was cool because the key held the pouch in place while I sewed it.

-----------------------

Note: If you do end up going with this idea I strongly suggest you test the magnets to find the direction of best holding-power before gluing in place. It may sound dumb, "Duh, it's just North to South, knucklehead!" but in this case, I'm thinking mainly because of the bar magnets, it was NS & EW (sort of). The bar magnets would stick to the Corona cap and stick together on their narrow sides with either the South or the North pointing upward. A little flipping around and I found the strongest pull.

Stating the obvious: I went with what I had to work with but, of course, if you use a 7/8" (maybe a 1''er will fit) by 1/8" or 3/16" disc magnet inside the bottle cap the magnetic attraction will be stronger.

Please overlook the long, shoulda-been-cut-a-month-ago dirty thumbnail...hey, I work construction. :)
