1st oil/filter question

Hi,
Had the dealer do the first oil change as soon as I bought the bike but now I have the time to do it; any particular oil and/or filter that seems to work best with the newer Magnas?  any feedback would be much appreciated.

I don't think any two people on this forum use the same oil or filter <grin>.  I use the Rotella T synthetic and Pure One filter.  If you go to the Magna Diaries on the main page, there are two good write ups on oil and filters.   I really think mosst oils are OK as long as you keep it clean.

I agree with Dan on what oil when and who. I have used all kinds and have decided that on my new used magna to stick with the honda recommendations just for the sake of it.
I never found any difference in how it performed, ( it always went fast!) with my 98 and 99. Now with the 2000 I am going stock, no shims, no muffler mod, no K&N, and regular oil, just the flashy stuff on the outside!!

Thanks Bob,  I need a new pic.  I have added a Corbin seat and forward controls since that picture.  Theses bikes are a thing of beauty.

Mainerider, the stuff you can pick up at Autozone (Fram filters and Castrol 10-40 motorcycle oil) works just as well and is a heckuva lot cheaper than what you'll find at the Honda stealership.

Might give Mobil 1 4T (used to be named MX4T) motorcycle specific synthetic oil a try, you can run twice as many miles vs natural based oil, so the cost is back to the same.
