Need Help Tuning

Mr. SS

I have been reading a bunch of the posts and hate to ask yet another jetting question. But I do need some help

I have the DRP Kit with a K&N filter and gutted stock pipes. I want aftermarkets but the cost of pipes is not in my budget for right now.

Everything went really well with the install. I finished up in just over 2 hours, turned out the "D" screws a quarter turn as instructed and the bike started up without much effort. I have a nice crisp throttle response and figured I was set.

When ridding I have a lot of popping on decel. This does not bother me much but think it has something to do with the issue that I have. If I start to take of the line and get on it really hard the bike starts to break up around 5500rpm or 6500rpm. Once I get above 7000rpm it pulls nice and hard to redline.

I do not seem to notice this while cruising. If I drop down everything seems to be in order. Throttle response is really good and everything is much smoother over all now as compared to stock. It almost seems like the bike is loading up so am I running a little rich?

I pulled a plug and it looks pretty good. Not really a nice brown but not black either. I am kinda at a loss on what to do next. No popping on decel when warm is a rich condition right? So if I was to start turning the screws back in would lean it out?

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated  8)

David, turn the pilot jet screws in all the way in (gently they are brass) then back them out to a full 2 7/8 to 3 turns out.
Give that a try, if you still have some decel popping then turn an 1/8 turn out (richening) till its gone.

Hey Greg !!

I have seen you posting all over the board and it is a pleasure to meet you. Now the pilot screws are the "D" screws that I have the tool for correct?

So with all the popping that I have now does that mean I am running lean? The popping does not bother me as much as the breakup that I am getting in first gear. If I silence the popping will this help get rid of that mid range miss? And it does not look like there is a lot of room down there can I get to these with out taking the carb rack back out?

Thanks Again !!

David, good to make your aquaintance.....  Yep the D-shaped brass get is the pilot jet.
If you have decel popping it is still a bit lean, and this will also cause the sluggish mid-range.
It is difficult to reach the pilot jets (I hate Honda for this LoL, as on the other gens of Magna's they were horizontal accessible from outside hehe) if ya have small enough hands it can be done.  You can buy the D-shaped tool in bit that will fit into a small socket, however with the hole the jet fits into there is not much room and if you are not exactly square on the get you can bind on the side and this feedback gives a false bottom.  I prefer taking the carbs off LoL.
