I have been two a few shops for tires and say that i want the 170/80 instead of the 150/80 and they all say that it wont fit on the 99 magna... so i just making sure that it will fit so i can get them on..

Thank you guys

The 170/80 will fit if you mod your brake stay.  Personally I don't like the way the tall tire looks, it's just too big.  To me the 180/70 is a better choice because it is fatter than the stock 150 tire but not a lot taller.  Not saying what you should like though, just sharing my view.

If you ride 2 up or are a bigger person then the 170/80 may rub on the fender bolts.
I agree that the 180/70 is probably the best pick.

i just want a fatter tire... does that tire i listed not make fatter?? if not then which tire is the fattest it will fit??

Curtis_Valk

The 170/80 is the fattest that will fit.  Trouble is, it is also much taller than the stock tire.  That is why Greg and I prefer the 180/70.  It's not quite as fat, but it's also not mega tall like the 170/80.  As far as I know those two are the only proven choices.  Take your pick.  Do the dance.  Pay the fiddler.

and so what wound i have to do to my brake stay to make them fit???

The 170/80 will fit.  I have it on mine and so do many others.  Why it is bigger than the 180/70 is beyond me.

Some shim the breakstay rod, others buy a modified one, I simply took a hammer and an anvil to the original one.  I partially flattened the part of the rod that was rubbing and now I have lplenty of clearance.  Plus, the rod is being pulled laterally and therefore the structural integrity of the rod was not compromised.

However, I will note that I weigh 180 and never ride two up.  That might make it rub in a different (read: wrong) way.

I have a Dunlop 555 170-80-15.  I am biger then 200 and my wife much much less ride 2 up all the time. I have not noticed anything dramatic. You can see before and after pictures at
