Well, thanks to you guys, Charles, Wayne, and Alan, in particular, I am "back in the saddle again".

I bought the heavy duty chain tool from MotionPro, and the additional anvil to stake solid nosed soft rivets.  Boy, does that work well.  Except for the fact that I let the tetrahedral anvil turn just a bit on one of the two rivets, you would be hard pressed to distinguish the master link from the factory links.

Rode out to Pedernales Falls state park and back yesterday.  Beautiful day, cool, wore the leathers, had a ball.

Life is good.  :D

The adventure begins where your plans fall through.

Just a dream, but the perfect answer is a 800cc Magna with a shaft drive.  (The extra 50 cc to more than make up for the weight)

While we are dreaming, let's dream ABS brakes and an alternator large enough to power all the lights, electronics, glove and/or body heaters, etc I would like to hang on it.

Oh, yes, and keep the price below $7000, so I can afford one

Gotcha covered there too. My 98 ST1100a has ABS linked Brakes and a 40 amp alternator for Gizmos. Also Traction Control.  Oh yeah I bought it in February for $4750 with 12k miles on it.

I just changed the chain and sprockets on my 94. I went up one tooth in the front and kept the stock size in the rear.

I went with a Tsubaki lube-free chain that my local motorcycle repair shop recommended. No oil, no mess. Hard to believe, but I read up on it and couldn't find anything negative. It's smooth and quiet...

TLRam1

All their MC chains appear to be Low maintenance O-ring chain. I have never seen a Lube Free chain for a bike application.

Maybe I need to look further?
