Frank,

Changing your main jets will affect your needle jet volume also which is midrange RPM.

THe good thing is you are getting to know your bike real well!  :D  Keep knocking out the possibilities!

Quote from: frank bernardoTIMING IS PERFECT BECAUSE I SET IT UP THE WAY THE BOOK SAID TO AND THE TIMING MARKS ON THE CAM GEARS LINE UP CORRECTLY.

The book can be misleading so I have to ask this. When the timing mark is on the 1-3 cyl's do you see the lines on all 4 cam gears? or do you have to rotate the engine to the 2-4 mark to see the front cam marks?

Have you checked the fuel lines and the fuel filter manuel suggest for loss of power clogged fuel lines or improper fuel mixture.

In addition to the above info. IIRC the engine is in time when the marks on all the cam gears are perpendicular to the heads when the timing mark is at 1-3. When the timing is set for the front cylinders you line up the dots on the cam gears with the head. Some of the early Magnas (maybe just the 82?) don't have the dots and you have to mark them before removing the cam gears. If I'm wrong on this let me know, pain meds are doing a number on me so my info may be a little off.

I WAS TOLD BY A HONDA DEALER THAT THE DIAPHRAGMS FOR THE CARBS ARE PROBABLY TORN OR WORN OUT, AND THAT THEY WOULD COST ABOUT $100 EACH TO REPLACE.  A GUY IN TOWN WANTS $800 TO REBUILD THE CARBS AND REPLACE THE DIAPHRAGMS.  WOW

roboto65

Well I trust the dealer about as far as I can throw them

And as far as 800 for a carb rebuild heck you could fly to my house and I will rebuild them the same day and fly back and still save money !!!!

Where are you located we are all over and one of us could surely help you do the rebuild No problem !!!!

THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I REMOVED THE CARBS AND EVERY VACUUM DIAPHRAGM IS TORN.  SOME HAVE A SMALL HOLE IN THEM, AND ONE HAS A LARGER TEAR IN IT.  ON BIKE BANDIT, THESE DIAPHRAGMS COST $122 EACH.  I AM SURE THIS IS THE PROBLEM.  I SILICONED 3 OF 4.  THE LAST ONE I CUT A SMALL PLASTIC BAGGIE OUT,AND SILICONED IT IN PLACE.  WILL IT WORK?  IT'S CHEAPER THAN SPENDING $122 TIMES 4.

It might but you will know if it doesn't

ServiceHonda.com has them listed for $85.25 if that doesn't fix it. I'm not sure but I may have a set of V45 carbs out in the shop, I'd sell the whole set a lot cheaper than the new parts would cost you. If you're interested I'll locate them and check their condition.

THE DIAPHRAGMS YOU POSTED WOULDNT FIT MY CARBS.  IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE PRESSED ONTO THE METAL PIECE THAT HOUSES THE NEEDLE VALVE.  PROBABLY WHY THEY COST $82 EACH.  I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN BUYING THE CARB.  COULD YOU DO ME A FAVOR AND UNSCREW THE CHROME DIAPHRAGM COVER AND SEE IF THEY ARE IN GOOD SHAPE?  IF THEY ARE OK, I WILL BUY THE CARBS IF THEY ARE AT THE RIGHT PRICE.  THANKS A LOT!!

GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES.  IT IS DONE!  WHOEVER TALKED TO ME ABOUT THE SLIDERS, ALIAS DIAPHRAGMS, WAS THE CORRECT CONTESTANT.  I FOUND ONE BADLY TORN, AND THE REST HAD REPAIRABLE SMALL HOLES.  I PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER, OPENED THE THROTTLE, AND I HELD ON AND FELT THE REAL POWER OF THIS FINE OLD MACHINE.  IT IS AN INCREDIBLE DIFFERENCE!  THIS FORUM IS LIKE HAVING A BUNCH OF BROTHERS TO TURN TO IN CASE OF PROBLEMS.  YOU WERE ALL SO GREAT OFFERING ME YOUR HELP.  FINALLY, TOTHE GENTLEMAN WHO OFFERED ME THE CARBURETOR:  I WILL NOT BE NEEDING IT, BUT THANKS FOR YOUR OFFER!      FRANK BERNARDO

GENTLEMEN, I DO APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.  THE PROBLEM WITH THE LACK OF POWER WITH MY MAGNA WAS THE DIAPHRAGMS IN EACH CARB.  EACH DIAPHRAGM WAS TORN CAUSING NO FUEL TO BE RELEASED WHEN ACCELERATING.  SILVERADO COWBOY SOLD ME A USED CARB, AND TODAY I INSTALLED ALL 4 DIAPHRAGMS.  NOW I KNOW WHAT POWER MY MAGNA WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE.  THANKS AGAIN.    FRANK
