Speedometer Cable on 2002

My Speedometer Cable is starting to make a noise, so I need to replace it.

Is this something simple or should I take it to a shop?

"What is my level of knowledge?" you ask. I change my oil & filter regularly and I've even replaced the air filter under the tank a couple of times, but I would never attempt to tune the carbs! I've pulled the wheels off when it was time for new tires, but a shop put the tires on.

The bike has 17k miles on it, and has never been inside a shop. If I do take it to the dealership to have the speedo cable worked on, what else needs to be looked at that I'd probably miss?

Unscrew the cable from the speedometer and put some oil in the cable first. See if that helps. You should not need a new cable unless the bike has been setting in the elements and moisture has been inside the cable for extended periods of time.

But if you do decide to replace, you can do it yourself. Just take a look at it.

grafite will work better for the speedometer cable you can get it at any parts store if that doesn't fix it replacing it is easy disconnect from the top and bottom and put on the new one.

I agree graphite would be a better choice.  Using oil seems to attact dirt and gums things up, or at least thats been my experience.

The cable for a Valk (we just change out Willies) was $3.88 at Honda parts direct. Willie replaced the whole thing, sheath and all for about $22.00 ,I think..  Shouldn't break you either way , just in case the lube don't work..

In the far future I am looking at changing out all my cables with some chrome.
It is so far in the future I have not looked at pricing so I don't know if these are good prices or not.

Sure thing!  Currently I have all painted parts, stock foot control assemblies, headlight unit, and other odds and ends.

Sorry I got off current topic, JP2Magna I am very confident you can handle the cable!  If the bike is running good and no apparent problems, then I would RIDE!

Holy Lightsabers, Luke! What did you do to your Magna? Looks like you've made a few modifications yourself.

Did that tank come off of a Valkorie? I've heard of making that mod, but I've never actually seen one.

Valkorie Interstate (Valkorie standard recommended) It is my daily ride.  My wife was accusing me of spending to much time with the girls at the gas station.  Not.    It was getting old getting gas two or three times a week.  I need to make a new picture. I now have back peg extenders and highway pegs for me and new bags.  The centerstand is next.  The lifting the bike twice a week is getting old also.
