angled tire valve stem

My friend at work that bought Greg O's bike had a bad experience with his bike this weekend and it kind of scared me. He was running along at speed on I-75 with his wife on the back when it sprung a leak. He safely made it to the side of the road and waited for a trailor to get home.
The same thing happened to him a few years back, that time causing a crash.
I have an angled valve stem on my current bike but have not had a problem during the last 4K miles.
My previous bike had one on it after a tire change and it sprung a leak with my wife on the back but we were doing only 40MPH, only a couple days after intall.
I think the big problem is that to get it in the mechanic needs to twist and turn and work real hard to get it in and that process weakens the rubber piece surrounding the stem. I had a honda mech try to put two in one of my tires and he tore them up and stuck with the straight stem.
My point is WATCH out for them, I wonder who else out there has had such an experience????
I remember a thread talking about the BMW adapter available to use when putting air in the tires. I am seriously thinking about going that route next tire, making sure it has the straight stem.

Good info. I have always used straight stems and no issues.

Do they make a angled metal stems with nuts on both sides w/rubber seals?

Those look great Curtis. I am tempeted to get a pair since they are a permanent mount to the rim, never needing replacing..

I just carry an angle adapter with me on both my Magna and the wife's scooter.  At home, the Magna doesn't need the adapter as my portable compressor and my full compressor chucks fit OK.  On the scooter, I need the adapter all the time due to clearance issues.

The adapter allows my to put in on as necessary, and not need to have one installed and be concerned about the risk.

I have heard that the angled valved stems when spinning around at highway speeds tend to walk out if they dont have the valve holder.  Check out a set of Valk wheels they have a little holder that keeps the angled stem from being yanked by the centrifugal forces.

I've never had a problem with my 90 degree adapter on the rear tire.

I got mine here...

I've seen them in other net places, but I was following someone else's link one day when I finally felt committed to buying.  They work fine for me as, again, I don't leave them attached, just put 'em on when I need them.
