I haven't seen a decent shot of the megaphone exhaust yet, if you could post a nice shot of them on your bike I'd appreciate it.

Thanks I really appreciate it, they look very nice they look pretty similar to the rumblers.

I can still buy those from my local dealer which is a plus  :)

Allen,

Can you email or post a pic of your windshield clamp to me?

I was given an older HB mount shield but the mounts might hurt my chrome on my vintage bikes.

I am anxious to hear the many different types of exhaust at MOOTmag!!!   Mine is stock and the only type I have heard so far is cobra's.   So until then,  saving up the $$ for a new set!!!  Lance

Thanks Allen,

The old style tightens a cone shape with increasing diameter ridges I am afraid will cut into my chrome handlebars......hmm, wonder if those mounts would work on my shield.

Could always get a strip of 1/8 inch rubber and cut to the width of the clamp, that way it wont wreck the chrome. Could even use the the rubber from a inner-tube if you really needed to save a buck.

I'm curious how many people have tried or attempted the Mod #2 for stock exhaust? I was thinking has anyone tried taking it a step further and just removing the steel end plate entirely from the stock exhaust? whats it sound like? hows the bike run?

I was thinking of using a dremel with a cutoff disc, and then some grinding bits to smooth it out.

Just throwing it out there, I'm sure I'm not the only one thats thought of it.

I have tried it stock, with the end plates completely out and with just the resonators cut off and the end plates reinstalled. I like the last best. With the plates completely out, It roars so loud at about seventy It starts getting to me after about ten or fifteen minutes. with the resonators cut off right in front of the end plates it sounds pretty good when your getting on it but settles down when you level off at cruising speed. You can drill out the rivets and remove the end plates to see how it sounds, they are easy to reinstall with new rivets or even self tapping bolts. This is just my personal opinion on the mods, I'm sure you'll get more to come..

I listened to one with the endplates out, not a pretty sound. It was sitting and revved a bit so riding might be different.

There is a true baffle plate further up into the muffler housing that you can drill out, but will take a VERY long drill bit.  You can leave all other parts stock..  I have yet to do this mod but have a couple sets of well "USED" mufflers for testing, but been too busy (LAZY) to actually find a drill bit (or extension) long enough to reach the baffle plate.

I was thinking of removing the steel end plates for the look more then the sound, so they would look like slash cut after market pipes. I was only concerned about how much back pressure the bike might lose, by having no restriction past the baffles.

Good Day!
First, I'd just like to say that this is a great forum; I've been searching/reading through several Magna forums and have found some great information here.  I am, however, looking for a little more specific info on different pipes for a '95 Magna.

The previous owner of the bike has performed a muffler mod - I'm not sure which one.  The end of my mufflers don't have the smaller pipe sticking out of the endplate; when you look inside the pipes, it looks like the endplates have been riveted back on without any sort of baffling at all.  I find it extremely loud and under acceleration it makes a tinny, open 'blah' sound with a heavy drone at speed.  On deceleration the bike makes a 'blaaaahh', pop-pop-pop-pop-pop, 'grrrrrrrrr' - I suspect that these things are basically straight pipes; I couldn't imagine them being louder unless I tore the pipes off all together.

What I'm wondering is, what are the quietest aftermarket pipes to dial this down?  A list of pipes and their relative loudness would be great.  From what I've read, most folks are saying Stock/V&H/Jardines – I'm not sure where Cobra's [drags/slashcuts] fit in there.

Thanks for your help guys, I know pipe questions abound in the forums, I've just never seen a list of relative noise.

Regards,
Jimmy

Stock mufflers are the quiet'est, all others are going to be louder by a good margin.

Sounds like you need to find someone wanting to do the muffler mod and swap endplates with them.  Or simply find unaltered endplates.
