Signal Light Dilemma......

'95 3rd Gen Magna in question here, approaching 30-K miles, very good condition, no other electrical or wiring issues, but just yesterday....

During normal operation, the left and right signal lights stay lit.

However, when I make a left signal then turn it off, the right-hand signal light will go out.

The opposite happens when I make a right turn signal. :???:

Fortunately, I can still make a turn signal, but both lights do not stay on after I cancell the signal, in either direction. This doesn't appear to affect the rear signal lights.

Any ideas why this would happen? Thanks

I'm going to assume you have done anything recently like replace the bulbs or tamper with any wiring.  Have you taken the switch apart and cleaned it?  I know my switches need a once a year cleaning with contact cleaner.

I agree with Jimmy.  The symptoms you describe have happened to me, and every time it proves to be the turn signal switch.  Remove the screws from the control housing, so you can access the inside.  Spray down the switch contacts with contact cleaner or  WD-40, then blow dry with compressed air.  This has worked for me every time.

Have not messed with bulbs or wiring as of this season....but I never thought about the annual cleaning, either, which makes sense given it's exposure to the elephants...

I like the cheap and easy way out of problems. I'll grab a bottle of contact cleaner on the way home from work today and give it a shot. Thank you, gentlemen....I'll report back to you.

.....and, it worked!

Just cracked it open and sprayed the inside for a bit then waited a bit before trying the signals.
I also wrapped a rag around the left handle bar to keep it from spraying outside the box.

Sorry for the delay...life got in the way again. Thanks for the input, as always.
