All,

I've been looking around for a decent camera mount for my Magna.  Until then, I built this ghetto mount for experimentation and tested it a couple times.  seems to work great, but like I said, it's a bit ghetto looking.  I've since shortened it quite a bit and mounted it to the left side of the crash bar a bit lower.  Any suggestions to improve this thing are surely welcome.

I'll post a pic of it :)

oh, and a link to the video I made using it.

Looks like it works pretty well...  Ram-mounts.com should have a mount to fit just about anything.

I second RAM mounts.  They seriously have something for everything to mount it just about anywhere.  I got a setup for my GPS and it works great.  I purchased through http://www.expressmounts.com/  I had to do a bit of searching, but they carry just about every RAM mount product, if not all.  Their prices were the best I could find online too.

Greg, Nick,

Thanks for all the replies.  You guys Rock!!!  I ordered the RAM mounts setup.  They are way less ghetto looking

I pulled this: http://www.expressmounts.com/ramb149c1 and ordered a separate 1/ 1/4 base so I can move it to the crash bars when I desire.

What kind of camera are you using.  I've always wanted to get one to get video of some of the mountain roads around here and your videos look pretty good.

Nick,

The camera I used for this was a little Nikon CoolPix that has 5.0 meg and 3x zoom.  The card I have in it right now is a 512meg card. Which Doesn't allow for long vids. I am surprised the batteries lasted for two trips around as well as other pics I used it for in the last month.  But its holding up ok. I am surely experimenting with it al at this point.

The one thing I did notice is that when I modded the mount to put it down on my left crash bar, vibration (I would imagine from engine) would cause a lot of jitter when getting up to say, 50 mph or so and over (or tach revs, I dunno yet).  The mount on the handlebars seemed to isolate that a bit more.

What I am hoping is, that the rubber ball mounts that are incorporated into the RAM mounts will eliminate a lot of any kind of vibration, that would be key I think, since the camera doesn't have any kind of "jitter" elimination features built in.

And I am like you, living so close to the Shenandoah mountains (less than 50 miles), I'd like to capture some of the next trips I make out there as well as the nice hilly curvy terrain in Northern VA.
