Hey guys, I am still working on my 85 V65 overheating magna.  I had the radiator checked they cleaned it out and leak tested it and said its OK.

I am going to install the oil mod kit soon and I need to take the carbs off to install it.  While the carb is off I want to clean and adjust it but I've never done it before.  Is it a difficult thing to do for a rookie wrencher?  Is there a place I can ship the carbs too for service or should I trust a local dealer?  What is your advice.

I want it to run in the middle to rich side.  I think it is tuned lean and is contributing to the overheating issues.  Any thoughts and advice are welcomed.

There are people who advertise on e-bay that they will rebuild your carbs for about $250.  My opinion is that it is an easy thing to do provided you are observant and careful.  If you want the bike to run rich just go up one size on the main jets.  I have read on Sabmag site that you might just go up one size on the rear carbs as those run hotter inherently.  Remember if you make it richer you likely will foul your plugs often.

From what I have heard if you go slow and pay attention to what you're doing its possible for a newbie to do. I didn't go mine because 2 of my carbs were shot and I had to order a new/refurbished set for $470. If you send them out to the guy on ebay don't use the one thats located in TX heard many complaints. Use the other thats in AZ i think. Where I got my carbs. What city are you located? There's a shop that just opened up in Roanoke called Biker's Garage and they are really good and not too expensive. They deal with alot of metric cruisers like our bikes. Going to be rebuild my forks tomorrow.

Thanks guys I am in Detroit MI.  I think I am going to try it myself first.  I am striving to become a more independent on my bike maintenance.  I find it very rewarding to do wrenching on your own.  I am not ignorant of the pitfalls though :)  I have both the hanes and honda v65 manuals to help along

Thanks again fellas!

You can do it!  Its not all that difficult, you have the manuals and the desire so you are halway done already!
