QuoteYes it supposed to slide in and out not sure about what it does need to study on that one.
Here is what I always have thought about the springs in the valve.
The little tit (man I like that word better without "little" in front of it . ) is spring loaded so that once the float rises enough to close the valve it can still have some "play".  This allows the float itself to sort of "bob" when the bowl are full.  Like if you hit bumps or something similar that caused the gas to slosh around.  I think it also keeps it from "sticking" as easily since it is held very gently closed this way.
I may be wrong, (man I hope my wife never reads this forum. LOL) but I think I am pretty close.

Found this hunting around on the net!!!

The small torpedo shaped piece of metal hanging from the float is the float valve. Clean it up and check if the nipple-like pin in the top (closest to the float) moves in and out freely. If it doesnt, soak it in carb cleaner until it moves freely. This spring driven nipple serves as a shock absorber to hold the valve in place. Check the beveled end of the valve for any grooves from wear. If you can see one clearly you may want to replace it. Later valves have a rubber beveled end and normally are OK.

Thanx guys for the input...  At $18 bucks each, I'll try soaking it, Althought I worry about if it stuck once, it probably will again.
I'll discuss it with my friend and see which way he wants to go..
Thanx again.  :-)

Allen.. You are the MAN!!!
Great Job.. Maybe my unemployed friend can replace all four at this price since this was the source of his original problem in two other carbs..

He may not be able but it is best to replace the valve and needle at the same time.

For my old bikes the needle valve sets are 34.00 each. I buy Keyster kits, throw away all their jets including the needle jet as they are no good and use the needle valve sets & gaskets.

Terry - where do you get the kits from???
I'm not sure the seats come out of these carbs, I did not see them listed as a part number.. The Needles have rubber tips, so the seats may not be replacable.

Some valve bodies might be pressed in as some jets are, I don't remember.

These were bought from Rusty Riders. His website is not built yet, I think he has an ebay store, also Sudco has kits. I have another couple of kits coming from a guy in New Zealand, waiting to hear back from him.

Look at his ebay store.

I can't locate a "small engine repair lawnmower" site we would get some from.

See if any of this helps.

This Float Valve as Honda calls it is used in too many to list bikes including from 50 cc to 250's 500's 400's 750's, etc. So a company may not include the CB1000. I have 19 pages of bikes this fits.

If you have a small engine repair shop take it down and see if they can match it for you. Buy one for and complete a bench test to see if it works.

Sorry for the long delay on getting back to you....   Looks like you have got some really good feed back from the guys here.  MOOTsters ROCK.   If you need some info more specific to DOHCs like your CB1000C  try http://www.cb750c.com/  I've found it  invaluable in my efforts to return my CB900C to the road.
