On Saturday, October 4, those who are willing will meet at 11:30 at The Salt Lick Restaurant, where we will have lunch:

www.saltlickbbq.com

After a modest repast on their most excellent barbecue (don't order desert!!) we will take a short, twisty ride to The Wimberley Pie Company:

www.wimberleypie.com

We will then proceed to enjoy some back roads in Hays and Blanco counties before going home.  The route will depend on recent rainfall, as there are some low water crossings to consider.  These are low speed, twisty paved roads through hilly ranch country.  Some great views and fine riding.

Please indicate your intended participation by posting below.

Count me in.  It's been a few years since I ate at the Salt Lick.  I like the way they serve it family style.

I haven't planned out my route yet so I don't know what time specifically, but I know it will be early to get there by 11:30.  I know last time I rode down there I went the scenic route around Lake Travis not counting on Saturday morning traffic and it cost a lot of time so I'll skip that this time.  I'm planning on buzzing back right after lunch, or might hang with y'all for a few miles depending on what direction we end up heading.  I've got solid church commitments so I don't want to get back home too late Saturday night.  I'll post more when I get a specific route planned.  Anyone from the Dallas area who wants to join me is welcome but this is going to be another one of those 400 mile days I imagine.

Curtis

edit:  I just looked at one of my old routes to the Salt Lick and at best it's 227 miles one way.  This could easily turn into a 500 mile plus day so anyone considering joining me be forewarned.

final edit:  The routes are finalized and it will be just a tad over 300 miles down there.  It will be very close to that, maybe even more coming back depending on the route we choose (I have three options planned).  Looking like a 600 mile plus day now!  You were warned.

If I know my routing it will be an 8 hour trip! LOL  If I have to stick to straight highways and the super-slab, I'd almost as soon not go.

Well, at least the 'Horns are playing away Oct. 4, so you won't have to deal with game traffic!!

As much as we'd like to see everyone, we don't want you to knock yourselves out.  Just let me know as you decide what to do.

Unless it rains us out, the meal/ride will take place -- even if I am the only one!   Like Tigger, I suppose.... 8)

Ok, I've got my route planned.  305 miles there, 315 miles back..........looks like 14 or 15 hours saddle time.  The ride out will stay west of I-35 once we get south of Hillsboro and will include a run through Inks Lake State Park.  The ride back will stay east of I-35 mostly, and include some of the roads we rode on the ill fated fried bacon run (that turned into a Mexia run).

Anyone who wants to join me meet in DeSoto at the Chevron on the west side of I-35E and Pleasant Run at 5:00 A.M.  KSU at 5:15 and I wait for no one.  That should put us in Driftwood around 11 or so.  I'll have to skip desert to get back home around 9:00 P.M. or so.

I'll give this one a shot.

Jim: I'll probably stay overnight.

Curtis: Please forward or post your route.
You are not paid for what you do, but rather for what you will do and when that time comes, you will be highly underpaid.

Here's the route down.  http://mysite.verizon.net/res184gd/tripplans/id6.html I'm not going to post the route back, because I'm keeping my options open and will decide along with anyone riding back with me what type of ride home we prefer (options will be another "Curtis" route, State Highways or the SuperSlab).

This is a 620 mile round trip and will be my third longest lunch ride.  The longest was a 900 mile day in a two day ride for lunch in Presidio, TX.  Second is a 700 mile day to "May's On The Bayou" in LaBelle, then on to Port Arthur to pick up some hand made boudin and hog head cheese to bring back.  These were purely "lunch runs" for no other purpose.  I don't count the many great lunches from Key West to Yellowstone that were part of a trip.  Maybe we should start an "epic lunch" thread! LOL

Note that there are two meeting places: 4:00 A.M. at Dalrock and I-30 in Rowlett and 5:00 A.M. at Pleasant Run and I-35E in Desoto.

I thought maybe I could count on you, Dave!  Hope I didn't "bait you in" with the DeSoto meeting place! <evil grin>
