I use chain wax as well.   So far I have about 3500 miles logged this year on a new o-ring chain.  front and rear sprocket weren't in need of change when i replaced the chain so i left them alone.  No problems yet.  I don't even know what the question really was so if my post is not targeted properly please disregard.   I just like to be in the middle of things
