Putting BB's in the tank will work along with nuts, pieces of chain, you can tie the nuts together for easier retrieval if you need. If you have a lip on the petcock and filler neck the BB's and any other items are a pain to remove, hence tying together.

You will still need to wash all the rust out and probably de-rust with a solution. You can also derust via a battery charger and a anode rod. I will have to dig up my info if you want this, takes longer though.

If you will go to the FAQ Section from the front page of this forum there is a link for various service and owners manuals.

Looks like you have some local help available if needed.

0 answersCan this product be used in an 15w/40 oil tank?
Q: I have a new tank that will be used to hold 8 gallons of 15w/40 motor oil that will be made from 1040 mild steel. The inside of the tank will be free from oil/grease before addition of this material. How hard would it be to coat the inside, in other words how viscous is the material? Is it like molasses consistency or cooking oil consistency? What is the maximum operating temperature (250 F-350 F) range of this material before it will fail in the tank?

Q: ".... One quart can will repair one auto gas tank. Alcohol-Resistant Gas Tank Sealer. Unaffected by alcohol additives or alcohol-enriched fuel. "
seems confusing to say do not use with alcohol fuel in earlier sentence. Would this work to seal up a shellac covered cork carb float? thanks for your time and consideration in this matter. sincerely, ronro.

Ok... was out in the garage painting with the compressor this time (instead of the spray paint) and got a little carried away.... You see, I have ALWAYS like the LOOK of the Vegas 8 ball or another one I liked was the Night Train..... SOOO.... I officially painted the entire engine BLACK GLOSS HI TEMP........ I fell in love with it the moment the first spray went on and am going to detail it to a tee now!!

If anyone has suggestions on paint styles or What you like, feel free to share because I love other ideas and might incorporate it into my project!!  Thanks

Jester

Your making me ancy to get started on mine!!
I took my 4 wheeler and trailer to my Mom's place this weekend and left them for now.  This means extra room in the shed for the 2 projects and no trailer in the garage!   That is the first step for me getting started.

Can't decide if I like the all black look but I can't wait to see it finished.  If the gas tank is still an issue and you have a few bucks to spend on a professional job you should try Don Hart Restoration.

My son and I have an ongoing Rebel project bike and they did an amazing job on the tank and it comes with a 10 year warranty.

The quote was $185 but when I picked it up they only charged me $125.  The Rebel tank is pretty small so I was assuming that was why it was cheaper.  I would've gladly paid $185 for the job they did.
