This is a common thing with these bikes. The cause is Honda's cheap connectors. Easy fix though, simply cut the connectors off and solder the wire back together. There is a kit on Ebay you can get to fix this problem as well. I bet your 700 has the same style connectors. Might want to check them. Bike looks good.

Where did you get the tail/fender?  I like that, very cool.

The tail/fender is stock. Just looks different because of the custom seat and different rear turn signals.

The connectors do take some heat. over time they build up some resistance.. The more resistance, the more the heat, which causes more resistance, which causes more heat.. You get the idea..
Had the issue on my '94 on both connectors.. Search for "Regulator" on this site, you'll find a lot of posts from me including pictures :x
I cut out the connectors and soldered and Shrink wrapped the wires.. It has been good - So far  :-?
