I got bored again . For those of you at greg's wrench session you probably heard me complaining about needing pull back risers. well when I got home got HRI to order me a set of 6 inch chrome steel risers (Duece style), got em the next day $70.00 tax and all ($145.00) from Harley. While I was sitting there admiring my new risers I remembered what Curtis had told me about the gear noise on the Valk, You can always drown out the noise with louder exhaust 8). This is what happened next!!

I used two 14 inch long, thick wall tubing, with 2 and 1/2 inch inner wall, flared on both ends to fit snug inside the four inch tubing.. I saved the last 3 inches of original muffler so I could use the resonators. All I can say is the trans noise must have fixed itself while I was working on the exhaust
I will probably put the chrome  (shortened) back on tomorrow. I did leave the option for turn downs at a later date.
I'll post the finished product later.

Great work Charles!! Do you have pipe benders/expanders for exhaust work?

What little I do I usually buy scrap from a muffler shop and have then bend or flare what I need. To make the inside tube a tight fit I used a hammer and Crescent wrenches to flare the ends then drove them down into the outer tube. The inside tube prevents that hollow sound and the flared ends make a smooth collector for the three exhaust. I'm am pleased with the sound, very deep rumble with out the hollow tinny sound. I'll have to save up for the 4 inch turn down tips, $30.00 a piece .Drop in the bucket for some of you rich folks 8).

That's what I like to see!  A man who knows where he's going and is not afraid to cut up a set of $1500 exhaust (from Honda). LOL  You'll get more flow with your "collector" than stock so you may have to shim the needles.  It's an easy job on the Valk though, since the carb diaphrams are practically looking at you (assuming you don't eventually pull the carbs anyway).

Add an I/S ignition module and I/S carb springs for more grunt out of the hole and you'll have the fastest Valk in MOOT!!

$1500.00 #^%$@&(>)?< WHAT WAS I THINKING!! :D :D Neah, I didn't really like Honda's stock and couldn't afford straight drag pipes, so I did what I do (tare things up), hopefully it'll look better when I'm finished. I left the three resonators in the end hoping that would create enough back pressure to avoid working on the carbs, but I'm going to have to pull them to clean the slow speed jets anyway..

Well, you know what they say.  If there is something about someone else that really bothers you, some behavior perhaps, it is often that you also have that trait and are not happy about it so you tend to be annoyed by it in other people.

I have found this to be true, though not always, with my own experiences.

I got lucky a few years back and found a fellow Valker willing to part with an almost new set of take-off pipes for $125 plus shipping (which was substantial because of the weight and size).  I kept them pristine for a long time, but finally bobbed enough off the piggies to get my turn down tips on.  I like my road bike a little quieter for long trips.  The gutted pipes that are on my SuperValk were originally on the road Valk, but the turn down tips just roared in my helmet with the sound bouncing off the pavement.

So...........I have a set of lightly cut-upon pipes (piggies cut and rear baffles drilled) I'd part with for oh, lets say half price shall we?  For a friend, you know.  :P
