Does anyone know if an engine from an 87-88 Super will fit in a 1984 V45 frame?   Pics of it look more like a 3rd gen engine.  I have a line on one for a good deal, if it will swap with my current engine that is.

I may be mistaken but I want to say I've heard of somebody putting a V65 motor in a Super frame but not vice versa.  Anything is "possible".....lol

The mounting is a bit off..

The V65 into the Super required moving motor mounts around among other things.

I can see where swapping the V65 motor would be a bigger job.  I guess I need to ride my V45 over to look at the guys motor so I can compare the mounting and stuff.

Can you spell "cut and weld"?

LOL!  I can SPELL it.  I don't have any welding experience.  I do have a stick welder a buddy gave me, but I have never even turned it on.  I don't even know what kind of rods to buy for it to start practicing.

Is a Super engine that much more powerful than a "regular" V45 engine??  I assume it is more powerful by some degree as the engines sure don't go down in power in newer models.

Go to a welding store and they will tell you what you need depending on what your going weld, than practice.

Is your welder 110 or 240?

6011 or 6010 is what most use to start with, easy to strike an arc will burn on dirty or rusty metal. they burn hot and have a lot of splatter (leave welding bb's every where) for a smoother weld 7014 and for a stronger weld 7018. 7018 is a lot harder to weld with, so I would wait a while on that one. For welding on motorcycle frames Stick is not adviseable wire would be better and TIG would be the best, I wouldn't suggest practicing on a motorcycle frame at least not one your going to ride.

It is 240.

I have some metal to practice on, but if Charles needs his ride totally ruined I guess I could help him out.

I guess I will pick up some of the 6010 or 6011 to practice with.  I don't plan on doing any frame welding, or critical parts for that matter, but I would like to be able to fab something if need be.

Everyone knows if you stroke it more than twice, you're just playing with it.  :-P
