Exhaust

Does anyone know what the inside of our exhaust collectors look like? Are there baffles inside? Is there a performance benefit like exhaust gas scavenging? I'm thinking of having my friend make customs exhaust for the bikes. Like 2 2 into 1 pipes to the mufflers or maybe making a different 4 into 1 collector. Or maybe a 4 into 1 exhaust like the Kerker's. Not sure if I would use stock muffler's of use something aftermarket like screaming eagle pipes. Doing a straight header type would be way too loud but I want a good rumble. Thoughts?

The stock exhaust has resonators after you remove the end plates.  Then further up inside is the actual baffles.  I don't think there is a way to remove them to look at them though.  Greg C.  thought you could actually drill the middle of the baffles out and it would sound good with the resonators back in.  IDK.   I do know I like the sound of the Vance and Hines exhuast very much.    With just the resonators removed, the bike sounded alright, just still had a tinny sound to it.

THe inner baffles can be removed. I did it to mine. Gives it a sweet rumble. The weld marks (the ones about the size of a pencil) need to be drilled out. Once you pound the living S#!t out if. Take chrome bolts to fill the holes you drilled.

That is true on the third gens, but first gen Magnas are built a little different, which are we talking about, isn't both of Magna86's bikes first generation?

I'm referring to 1st gen. That's what I own. And that's the bike he is working on.

If you get a long enough drill bit you can drill the actual baffle plate and I BELEIVE it would give a good bit more rumble with the resonator plate reinstalled.

I have a few donor sets of stock exhaust if anyone wants to play, I was going to but have been too busy lately to mess with them.  Besides I would not take the time to put them on the Project to test the sound hehehehe.  I like the SuperTrapps TOO MUCH!

Right I know about the V65 baffles being drilled out. I have super trapps for that bike. That bike is not going to running for a long time because I 'm gonna take it down to the frame and take my time. But both still have that collector under the engine. The only way to see inside is to cut it in half at the weld but I don't spares for that. I was seeing if anyone had done that yet? Like I said I'm thinking of maybe having custom collectors made. Can someone post on V4 and see if anyone there has cut one up? I can't join because I don't have a subscriber email account like verizon. But how do you take out the resonator plate on my 86 v45? I've looked and can't see any screws or bolts. I love my stock muffler look on the V45 since all the replacement mufflers just don't look right.

I will post on the V4 forum for you AND I will cut open a collector and the pipes off an 82 I have.  They are not in good shape anyway, full of dents and rusty.

Thanks I'll be waiting to see what you find about the collector. If I change that collector and remove the baffles do you think I'll have to rejet the carb? Or if I just do one or the other still rejet?
