I have a friend (Yes it's hard to believe) and he has a Kawasaki Drifter with a National Cycle Lexan® polycarbonate Windshield.
The windshield has LOTS of shallow scratches in it from cleaning..
Does anyone recommend a product that can remove these swirl marks??
He can get a replacement shield for ~$120, but if there is something he can use to remove the scratches, we can try that 1st..

Thanx in advance..

I use a product called Scratch-X by Meguires, but to really work he'll need a good buffer and a clean pad..

Are the scratches on the Lexan or on the coating? On the plastic you can probably get them, on the coating, I don't know.

Terry;
I'm not sure.. It was dark when I was looking at it and was using a flashlight.. They appear to be very shallow scratches, not gouges..
I have recommended the Meguiar's and sent him the info for a new windshield...

Thanx guys!! I knew I could count on you!!!

I would think the products for cleaning headlights would work as well. I Used one few years ago on a taillight and it brought back the color on the lenses and buffed out the light scratches. Don't remember the name but got it at autozone

I've used Meguiar's #40 Mirror Glaze and #57 Marine polish before to fix plexiglass and lexan scratches, i also use either of those as a final polish on the paint to give the bike that perfect reflective polish.

On this note has anyone had any experience with shaping plexiglass or lexan before? I want to round the top of my windshield a bit and was wondering how challenging it would be.

You may want to start this as a seperate thread..

Take a look at one of our past discussions: http://www.magnaownersoftexas.com/forums/index.php?topic=2698.0

Any additional questions, just ask.

No need for a reason other than the journey.

I used a plexi-glass product called "Quixx".  It worked pretty good.  It smoothed out the rough scratches from when my bike fell over and took out most of the rest of the filth.

After.  Not easy to tell, but I sure could when riding it.

DG - where did you get this product.. I have some scratches in my windshield from a Harley rider incident.. Will it work on Smoke shields, or only clear?
Thanx

I got it at an Auto Zone parts store.  Not sure if it would work for smoked screen.  Is the "smoke" a coating or part of the plastic??  I will read the tube tonight and see if it says anything about it.  Sadly enough I just threw the box itself away like a week ago.

The tube said nothing about types of use.  I am sure the box/instructions probably did.  My thought is that as long as it is not a "coating" or film you should be safe using it.

Looks like WalMart & Advanced Auto sell the Quixx.. I'll check it out.. I can always use it on the car headlights if it doesn't work out well on the windshield.

Thanks for the tip, DG. When I came across the cowling for my 'CD tonight, I wondered if there were anything to take the deep scratches out of the clear plastic from where the original owners dropped it in her driveway. Quixx may be just the ticket! Going to have to check it out.
