Quote from: Capt. Howard on April 12, 2009, 11:02:44 AMAlso should I get the L-drive for the 8mm socket (for adjusting carbs) or is there something in our tool boxes that will do the same?   Thanks Again.....I'm getting some good info. I really need...The last bike I completely rebuilt was a Norton back in the early 80's.........Cuz

I sprung for a right angle drive ratchet wrench, but the head is pretty big.  It will fit, but you gotta hold your mouth just right.

I put Maggie on a lift for this operation so I did not have to stand on my head to get to the adjustment screws.  One of the carbs was out of sync with the other three, so I only had to tweak one of 'em -- the hardest one to get to, of course

Ok Guys here is the problem. I bought this bike after "IKE". I couldn't let this bike go to the scrap yard or were ever it would wind up after insurance totals them. A good friend told me about the bike who works thru salvage companies who handled insurance claims. When I got it it had been flushed/cleaned...ect. All fluids changed ect. The bike runs pretty good but has at least one cylinder not firing in sync. Slow acceleration and it has a stall and then goes. If you hold at steady speed it has a misfiring sound and doesn't hold steady rpm. If you get down on it it runs great and pulls good but doesn't do good trying to hold a steady speed. This is why I am trying to get everything I might need before taking it appart..
If you have any ideas I'm open. Thanks Again to All........

Capt. Howard, where is this bike?  You could benefit from attending a wrench session for sure.  If you are somewhere close to the numerous motorheads of this outfit, you can get some excellent help just by showing up.  Heck, we might even plan one just to get a look at this rescue bike of yours.

Capt.,

If you fill in your location it will make it easier for one of us to step up and help ya.

In to your carbs, my 01 did the same thing as yours when I shipped it from Delaware. Rest easy, probably just needs a good carb cleaning, my jets were clean but I had a little brown gel that was the culprit.

You have one of the most knowledgeable carb guys at your disposal when not on the boat, Allen aka, (roboto65) not that someone else would not be able to help. Could it be something else like electrical, possibly, carb cleaning will more than likely fix you up. While inside the carbs and depending what mods you have you may want to jet and shim your carbs.

I will post a link to the carb thread you can take a look at to see what worked for others.

Not sure how or where my information is supposed to be. I have my profile filed out with that info. I checked it this morning and maybe it didn't show the changes I made a few days ago. I entered my password and clicked submit changes...(help?) I live in Kemah,Tx. That is between Galveston and Houston,Tx. on the Gulf Coast.
Yes I do believe your right Terry....I think there is a carb. dirty. I thought I would have to pull all the carbs and clean them all to be sure I get the problem the first time around. Yes I would Like to have a knowlegable person (or persons) help. I would like to know what jets are in it and shim if it doesn't have them ect..

Thanks Again....All Help appreiciated until I can return the favor........Capt.Howard

Capt,

In your signature line you added this

"The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."

Go back to this area maybe called "Forum Profile Info", that's where most of us added our name and location, you can only have so many characters than it cuts you off.

Capt. Howard,

Your tag line is very much like MLK's remark in a speech in Atlanta in 1964:

"All that is required for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing."

I like it.

Actually it was a quote of Albert Einstein.....MLK's was a good one too...Thanks to all of you for helping this slow learning p/c operator. With all the help I get here and God guiding my hands I bet I get "IKE" (that's my bikes name) running and looking like new again....Thanks      Capt.Howard

WEll, put the new one in the rear cylinders yesterday.  Bigger job than I expected, but I know I could it in half the time now.  Forgot how quiet my bike should be since I have ridden it at least 10k miles needing it.

Tried to sync my carbs with a motion pro and it sucked all the fluid out of the middle 2 tubes immediately.  I am ordering some more, but am concerned that there was that much suction on the front cylinders.  Could my carbs be THAT out of wack?  The outer 2 (rear cylinders) barely raised at all.

Going to attempt the ones in my V65 Magna this weekend, wanna come over and direct traffic?  JumboBret and Dave Shireman may be along for the ride also, Brett is a much better wrench than me, and Dave is just a glutton for punishment!  He's hoping we get done in good time so we can take a nice cruise afterwards!!!!
