Spark Plug Replacement interval

Honda Recommends replacing the spark plugs (by the owners manual chart) every 8 thousand miles.. At what Honda wants for Spark Plugs and the labor as well, if you follow this and have Honda perform this work, it probably turns into a $100 job..

I have over 30K miles on my plugs and they still look pretty good. I regapped them (they were still within tolerences) and put them back in.. I was just wondering what everyone elses opinion on this was..

I just guessed. To be honest I wasn't aware of Honda's recommended interval, but it sounds pessimistic to me. I suppose now I ought to at least pull a plug and see how it looks. I've only been a Magna owner right at a year now and my bike has 16K miles on it and in my opinion runs great. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it.....unless I can make it faster

I changed mine at about 47-50,000, while in AR on a trip I had a miss or something, thought it was plugs (worried me enough it would quit), changed the plugs and no help. So I would say 50K, when it runs bad (normally that will not help), or when I feel like it.

Me personally, I wait till I see a average drop in performance, MPG, etc before I am changing em.....

You have to change plugs? J/K when they look bad change'em i guess check them when you change the oil...

I checked mine when I had "Serenity" down after MOOT MAG last year. They looked good and the gap was correct, so I put them back in.

You sound like me, Jimmy. The '96 Chevy pickup that I bought new has around 150k on the original plugs. My son is driving it now.

What were you doing in Christoval? Me and some buddies from work like to take kayaks or little bass buster boats to the river down there and fish around Toenail Trail. Nice little town.

I was gone most of the day Tuesday getting my son's car in the shop. He messed up the front suspension (long story) and we had to get it looked at so even if you had been able to stop by I probably wasn't there.

Do give me a shout whenever you're down this way though. Always good to see you.

I took my parents down to do some relaxing and bird watching at the Hummer House B&B on Dan Brown's ranch. I did a little walking around his 1400 acres, part of it along the Toenail Trail. On my walk I jumped about 5 deer and a couple different groups of turkeys ..........and picked up about a hundred wood ticks. Can't have deer without ticks I guess. On our last day we went into San Angelo and hit all of the touristy stuff.

Wish you could make MOOTMAG this year. It would bring back lots of memories!

Next time I'm in Bronte I'll try to have some time set aside for visitin'.

Between my son's graduation, work and the fact I'm going to need a rear tire MOOTMAG was pretty much out of the question for me. Have fun and hit some curves for me!!!!!

I am at 50K. I am thinking of going with a split fire plug.
Has anyone tried them on the magna. I used them in my cars and boat.

The spark can only travel one path at a time, it cannot spark across both sides at the same time so in effect you get less. If they were a good idea people who race cars in both drag and road racing would all use them. Buy some NGK's and be happy for another 50k.

Last night we had a quick debate about that. We decided that it had a small change to go to both. Today I did a little research and you are right it looks like it will only use one or the other. But more important then that some have reported them breaking up and requiring an engin rebuild. That is scary. After thinking about it I used V-fire not splitfire they where half the price and said to be just as effective. If the splitfire is not anymore effective they could honestly say the V-fire is just as effective.

The splitfire split the ground electrode and the V-fire split the central electrode.

I have heard of Splitfires doing damage also. Not only that but Splitfires have affected peoples engines negatively. If there were spark plugs that could gain horsepower or mileage OEM's would be using them. In a Corvette, Porsche or a Hyabusa you'll not find any Splitfires or any other gimmicky plug from the manufacturer. The NGK's that come in our bikes are high quality spark plugs. Remember it's a Honda.

I'd be concerned about my plug wires at 50k. I don't know how long Magna's OEM wires have been lasting without any degradation so if anyone else knows please post it. Thanks
