So...I guess I just have the best luck in the world.

I parked my Magna in the city today while I was running some errands in a parallel parking spot between two cars.

Well, lo and behold, when I returned to my bike, it was down on its left side, halfway in the middle of the road.....

******* suv hit and run!

There was about a gallon of gas spilled over the road (full tank), and my clutch,  black box on left handlebar, and mirror (broken),....have all been bent towards the tank, and now the clutch lever ...instead of being in front of your hands, its now pointing toward the sky.  The black box (clutch fluid?) on the left handlebar is crushing the choke so that I can't run the motorcycle without leaving the choke halfway on.  I don't think its a good idea to leave the choke halfway on while riding so it hasn't moved?

I've never taken apart the left handlebar but I have to free the choke somehow, and I have to straighten up the clutch lever and put it in the "right" position.

I plan on tackling this project on Sunday when I have sometime off.

Any ideas appreciated.

I'm not much of a mechanic, and I only have a small toolbox.

Thanks.

Dan, sorry to hear about your run in with a irresponsible @*#&%...

When I bent my clutch handle (not as bad as yours) I took the cable out (I know you have no cable) and took a propane torch and a pair of Vice Grips and was able to heat it enough to get it back into position.. It sounds like yours is pretty bent, so it may or may not work for yours..

Maybe someone has a left hand set up for your bike sitting in a garage somewhere.. (anyone???)

I'm with Terry. I hope you meet the driver of the SUV, preferably in a place where his screams for help will go unheard.

And people wonder why we park on sidewalks and other areas where you cant get a car. I have never parked on a sidewalk but I have parked between the handicap spots.

Parking between Handicaps spots in Florida is illegal and eligible for a $150 ticket..

Dan, that SUCKS!  It is something I worry about when parking in 'cage' spots and do my best to park where I am visible.  Likely they whipped in and did not see till it was too late.  Damn weasels for running off!

The left "box" is your clutch master cylinder.  I would not ride it with the choke half on very far if you can help it.  Once you loosen things up you should be able to straighten them out.  Mine has been down on that side at least 4 times since I got it and I have not had to replace anything yet, well other than the windscreen.

I can ship you a mirror if you need it.  I don't have a spare clutch lever though.  I also have a bracket for the left side of your windscreen if you still need that too.

If I can't find an unobtrusive spot near the door (like, on the sidewalk), I will try to park off in the weeds where no cages care to go...

I have seen a lot of motorcycles in NYC parked between parallel parked cars, backed in so the rear fender is just above the curb.  If I had parallel parked my car in one of the spots, I might be a bit hacked trying to leave without banging the bike -- especially after they pass me between the lanes on the freeway...

Let me clarify something....Here is State law in Texas....Most Municipalities adopt an Ordinance to clarify..

Bikes can park on the sidewalk, cars can't

Sec. 545.302. Stopping, Standing, or Parking Prohibited in Certain Places.

(a) An operator may not stop, stand, or park a vehicle:
(1) on the roadway side of a vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street;
(2) on a sidewalk; [this is intended to apply to cars]
(3) in an intersection;
(4) on a crosswalk;
(5) between a safety zone and the adjacent curb or within 30 feet of a place on the curb immediately opposite the ends of a safety zone, unless the governing body of a municipality designates a different length by signs or markings;
(6) alongside or opposite a street excavation or obstruction if stopping, standing, or parking the vehicle would obstruct traffic;
(7) on a bridge or other elevated structure on a highway or in a highway tunnel;
(8) on a railroad track; or
(9) where an official sign prohibits stopping.

(b) An operator may not, except momentarily to pick up or discharge a passenger, stand or park an occupied or unoccupied vehicle:
(1) in front of a public or private driveway;
(2) within 15 feet of a fire hydrant;
(3) within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection;
(4) within 30 feet on the approach to a flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign, or traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway;
(5) within 20 feet of the driveway entrance to a fire station and on the side of a street opposite the entrance to a fire station within 75 feet of the entrance, if the entrance is properly marked with a sign; or
(6) where an official sign prohibits standing.

(c) An operator may not, except temporarily to load or unload merchandise or passengers, park an occupied or unoccupied vehicle:
(1) within 50 feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing; or
(2) where an official sign prohibits parking.

(d) A person may stop, stand, or park a bicycle on a sidewalk if the bicycle does not impede the normal and reasonable movement of pedestrian or other traffic on the sidewalk.

I would suggest you check out the Ordinance's in your City...

I often park up on a sidewalk or near the door of a business.  I don't think the law will be upheld unless the store owner, or similar, complains.

Dan, I may have some left over V45 parts out in the shop, I'll see what I can find. Do you need the reservoir or just the lever?

Thanks for all the help and/or sending of parts.  So far, I fixed the clutch, and the broken mirror :).

However, the bars are still bent, and the biggest mystery....

my lock broke.  I can't lock my bike, it won't turn to the left.

Any ideas????
