Darksiding Rear Tyre.

I just got back from a two day ride through the Texas Hill Country -- it was fantastic -- cool, unbelievable wildflowers, just super.  My friend from Colorado rode with me.  I had rented cabins for us at Koyote Ranch.  But, to the main point, because we swapped riding the two '96 Magnas, I got a chance to compare the regular to the darkside rear tire in rapid succession at various points in the ride.  I liked the darkside tire better, actually.  I also rode behind it through Hill Country twisties.  I am persuaded it has more rubber on the road than the Dunlop on the other bike.  Observed the tracks after my buddy rode through some water then made two turns.  The full width of the rear tire was obviously in contact with the pavement, from the track it left.

Bottom line -- the blue bike will need a new rear tire soon.  I intend to mount the same car tire that Hootmon referenced above on the blue bike, now that I have experienced it on the red bike.

But actually, still anecdotal, not really scientific. I would like to see some real testing, like a track day or skidpad session, with wet vs dry comparisons, etc., on various types of bikes. Of course, I doubt we'll ever see that. Meanwhile, the motorcycle community will just have to agree to disagree.

I bet it would sell some magazines.

Well if you think about it, when they do the laboratory type controlled testing to gather all of the data then what do they do?  They go to real world testing to see if the data bears out under every day use.  All we did was skip straight to the real world testing.  8-)

Once the miles are behind you and you've made your decision (whether to dark side or not) what is the point of the lab?  It could only be to silence the naysayers or convert people and I'm not interested in either. :-P

No need for a reason other than the journey.

As long as I have an everyday bike it will be darksided.
Now if I get a weekend bike I will most likely have a bike tire on it.  I am thinking I will get 6 years or more with my tire.  If I had a weekend bike I would be afraid the tire would go bad before wearing out.

But why have a weekend bike when I have an awesome Magna to enjoy on the weekends.

4500 miles, still looks un-used.
