Would you even consider this chain sprocket combo?

A common misconception in gears or sprockets is that, like s**, harder is always better.

In the case of gear teeth for sure, the hardness needs to match the application.  Making a gear set of harder steel will often cause them to wear faster.  I suspect the same holds true for sprockets and chains.  The exact shape is much more significant than the hardness.

All I know is that every post i've read about anyone using the aluminum rear sprockets(on the 3rd gen magna's), they were missing teeth and very worn, not sure of exact mileage, but i think it may have been around 8 to 10k miles. I don't know who made the sprockets, but I can vouch for jt sprockets (steel) on mine anyways.

Well I bought this set today.  For the extra $3.95 the seller (Kevin) is shipping a rivet master link ALONG WITH the clip style.

I will use the clip to go to MM#8 and Lawrence said he would peen the rivets in place for a permanent fix.

Let us know how these work out for you.  I recently had a new chain installed and the guy put a clip style on.  I went down to the Honda shop and they put a rivet masterlink on instead for $15 which included the rivet masterlink. I had a 16 and 40 JT Steel Sprocket installed.
