clutch cable question

On one of my '96 Magnas turning the steering column affects where the slip zone on the clutch handle occurs.  I haven't noticed it on the other one, but it may be the same.

Does anyone else experience this issue?  Does a new SS clutch cable fix it?  Does anyone know of a conversion kit to replace the mechanical cable with a hydraulic?

Thanks in advance

I don't notice it so much with the Clutch but I do notice is some with the Throttle..
I'm no help on the replacement question..

Can you re-route the cable to loosen it up a bit?

A re-route will help some.  Or order in one a couple inches longer.

This assumes it has non-stock risers/handlebars is why its pulling..

Thanks, guys.  I have put "lifters" on the risers to add about an inch.  I will see if I can find another route that works better.

I may replace the cable.  I presume I can buy one a bit longer?

Yep, a few places have them.  I think I ordered mine from JP Cycles.

I replaced mine back in March with a custom (+2") stainless steel Barnett from PhatPerformance.  I've got risers on the bike and the stock cable was pulling pretty tight at full lock. It wasn't cheap but it sure is purdy

Darn good looking bike Charlie, looks too good to have been ridden.

Thanks Terry!  I'm sure I don't put on nearly as many miles as some of the folks here but the bike does indeed get out on the road.  Stuff's a lot closer together here on the Island and that's not always a good thing.  Lots of new bling on it since that picture was taken back in March too ... Jardine Drags have been replaced by V&H pipes (really loved the simple, clean look of the Jardine's ... just a little too much volume), DPM radiator cover, VTX headlight, Kuryakyn mirrors & highway pegs, clear turn signal lenses and some odd bits of Cobra chrome.  Next up will be rear run/turn/brake mod (& modulator) and possibly a superbrace.

Good looking bike you have there. From where can i get clear turn signal lences? Any internet shops?

Thanks!  I ordered the clear signal covers from Clear Alternatives:

http://clearalternatives.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CA&Product_Code=CTS-0021&Category_Code=Cruisers

They include the proper amber replacement bulbs too (dual contact in front and single contact for the rear).  I did this with the intention of installing red rear LED running lights from the VTX signal mod:

I should have the parts for that tomorrow ... then it's time to pull out the soldering iron  :-)

When adding risers which move the bars more than an inch or so, the clutch cable can get tight when turning the bars to the right. In the instructions for our Cycle-istiC risers, we mention this and suggest re-routing the cable by just removing it from the guide loop in front of the downtube and running it beneath the loop instead of up through it. This has alleviated the problem in all cases that we know of. BTW, I have never figured out why this only affects some Magnas, not all, if they all are supposed to be the same.  ;^)
