Hi all-

Today I cleaned my K&N air filter (Holy crap what  PAIN!!!) and noticed I am missing a screw.

The screw was on the bar that goes across the carburetters for the choke.

I am searching now for a part number but I really have to ask if an OEM is required or if I can go to Fastenal and pick up an equivalent.

Opinions?
Cheers!

A screw is a screw as long as it fits and tightens up it doesn't matter where it comes from.

I second the motion, that a screw is a screw as long as it fits and tightens up; at least in this application, where it's not a torque specific safety item.

You can try looking here http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1999-honda-motorcycle-vf750c-magna/o/m2762

I would suggest just going to a hardware store and matching it up.

+1 on the hardware store. I'm sure you can find that screw.

On the carburetor drawing it was part # 12 and 15...

Thank for the advice everyone..

I generally agree with the Screw is a screw thought, however, IF it is the screw that retains the slide bar, then I THINK is has a special shoulder on the screw (I may be wrong).. You will need to pull another one to take down to the hardware store, so take a look and see if there is something special about it.. IF not, then off to the hardware store you should go.

Well I broke down and ordered 2x the screws and washers.   $15 for four parts shipped.  Glad I didn't need one of the >$1k items on that parts list.     :D

Ok, I rex'ed the parts..

I ordered 2x the screws and what I rx'ed does NOT have a collar / neck / shoulder..  It is a regular screw with a wide head.

I went back to the diagram and looking closer I can not tell if it is straight threaded or collared as I originally "thought".

Any suggestions / examples / pictures?
Cheers!

IRC the screws that hold down the snorkel do not have shoulders on them

I'm glad I bought two screws and washers...   :-P   The first attempt at putting the screw in ended in the screw and washer falling into cracks on the engine.  Hopefully they will bounce out next time I ride.  The second attempt went flawlessly.  Yes I did it the lazy way and didn't remove the tank or the carbs so I deserved to loose the first screw / washer...
Cheers!
