Hi All,

Do you need to buy all of this stuff that the service manual requires?

1) Universal Holder for the flywheel  p/n 07725-0030000
2) Lock nut wrench 17 mm x 27mm long
3) Clutch Holder Honda p/n   07923-MB00000

TIA Dan

I've always used regular tools for a clutch job; a good strap wrench will hole the basket with out damaging it.

Unless the clutch is totally shot, just hold the clutch basket with a strap wrench with the bike in gear and the nut will bust loose; may want to have a person sit on the bike and hold the brake in case it tries to move during this step though.

Don't know if this would apply to the clutch, but I found an air impact wrench w/ strap wrench worked tremendously better than a standard wrench/ratchet w/ strap wrench when pulling the alternator rotor.

Haven't done this on a 1st Gen, so just expose me for a hack if necessary.  When I did this on my 3rd Gen, I used a small punch (hex shaped shaft on the punch) to wedge between the clutch gear and the starter gear (I think it was the starter gear now).  This held the clutch basket still such that the clutch could be removed.  You can place the punch on either the top side or bottom side to hold it for tightening or loosening.

Also heard some who used a penny due to it being copper, but I used a punch and just positioned it such that the force was as much on the gear tooth face as possible.

What does a starter clutch do? Yea, I know it starts the clutch. I hate taking things off or apart and not even know what it does.

Dan, to keep the clutch housing from turning put a penny between the clutch outer housing and the primary drive gear.

If you are going to replace the transmission clutch, then all you will have to do is remove the bolt in the center of the starter clutch and it simply slips off a splined shaft. Just know that when you put it back on, you MUST align the punch marks on the starter clutch with the punch marks on the clutch basket ring gear, If you don't, it will never start.

Okay I orderd the gaskets and I have a basket. Maybe I will get lucky and just need to replace the driven plates and the friction plates. I thought it would be easier to replace the complete basket. I have some really cool news I would like to post coming soon.

Thanks for all your help and I would not know what to do without the mootsters.
