I was wondering if I took off my OEM Aluminum fork brace and re-engineered it creating an exact model then had it made out of SS if that would be a safer one or a more dangerous one. Maybe the brace is designed to flex with the stresses that are applied to it. Anybody have any thoughts on this. Can u still buy a new one OEM for the 1st Gen Magna's

Thanks Steve,
   This will be very helpful.

There are ones available that fit under your original made out of SS if you were unaware of this. What you are thinking about is fine, this would be less work and get you riding sooner without worries.

Hi Terry,

I got an email from Harry Usher and he told me about the Ebay SS brace. I came home from work and ordered it pronto.

It was the best 20.00 I have ever spent. My new Honda Service manual came today also. New tires, new brake and brace shim, it just doesn't get any better than this. Thanks for all your help, you guys are saving lives.

That's the one!

You will have to let us know what you think once you are able to ride the V65.

I made it to Canton Ohio around 9:45 AM today riding my 96 Vulcan VN800 Classic. I had a 106 mile ride so I left at 7:00 AM it was 52 degrees here in Pittsburgh soooo i don't have to tell you what that was like crusing at 82 mph for 50 mile on I-80. Anyway,
my man from Columbus with the extremley sweet 85 V65 with 21,000 with a B title shows up and we make the swap. It was the nicest ride I have ever had on a motorcycle. The mustang seat and the highway bars and that car passing OD. I drove straight through to Butler PA. I really just wanted to keep on going. I will take some pictures tomorrow. Here is one in my garage Papa and Momma Magna. It is really nice to have friends to share our scooter stories with. All just one last thing, I was crusin down I-76 Ohio on the V65 about 75 mph cars behind me UPS double trailers on the right and they were doing road construction over on the West bound lane, and all of the sudden the road drops off 3/4" and the surface is like a waffle iron, you know when they prepare the blacktop for a new layer of asphalt. This went on for 4 miles at 75 mph an the bike was just drifting all over the place. All I had was a Jersey barrier on the left and my package from Cheapcycleparts o my right. I really was glad to see real pavement. I have only been riding for two seasons so this kinda stuff is probably old hat to you guys. Thanks for listening.

Sounds like you did great.  The secret is, as you have discovered, "don't fight it".  The bike will drift around a bit, but you have lots of lane to play with.

I'm envious of you, riding 2 years and already have a V65 to your name.

I would like some opinions on something I did to my 84 V40. My son removed the baffles from both OEM slip ons and I drilled 8 1/4" holes in a 3" dia bolt circle in the end plate of the tailpipe. It has a really nice sound it seems to run the same. I am thinking of doing this to my 85 V65. Does this change the back pressure and cause any problems or issues? I am having problems finding EMGO rear turn signal stems for the V65. I purchased a pair of the front ones from G&M Cycle for 24.00 Cheapcycleparts wants that for one OEM stay. Any suggestions. Thanks for all the response and joy for my purchase.

There was a thread on the Tavern section about Cheap cycle parts.

Hi Guy,

I usually used Bike Bandit for all my part, but when I had to spend over 250.00 for some patrs for my 84 VF700C
I decide to shop around. I found that CCP was 25.00 cheaper than BB. Since I only shop for OEM parts I went for the savings.I now compare prices for all parts and CCP wins over BB each time. I have not really watched shipping time to compare. I always do preventive maintenance projects and I plan them way ahead. So I order the parts needed, and then study up on the subject and by the time I know what I am doing the parts are here.
