Sparkplug type

What kind of plugs does everyone use for their bike?
I'm looking to get some for my 1996 magna.  NKG?  IRIDIUM?    and what plug number?  BKR5e or KR5E?

Here's what the service manual calls for:

Standard NGK                                                   CR8EH9
Standard NIPPONDENSO                                    U24FER9

For extended high speed riding NGK                    CR9EH9
For extended high speed riding NIPPONDENSO     U27FER9

I've got the stock (standard) NGK's in my 96 ... works just fine.

I have never run the fancy expensive plugs either and never had a problem.  I personally would think they are really not going to help much without a hotter ignition upgrade.......

I run the NGK Iridiums in my Magna and have noticed at least a 50 hp increase!

I went with the plugs for high speeds/ extended hours being i'll be pulling numerous 12 hour days on my cross country trip.

I think the NGK Iridiums work well.   Most plugs don't seem to make a difference but when I put them into my ST1100 it woke up! A very noticeable change for the better. But not 50HP.
Magna and ST1100 use the same plugs.

On the note of spark plugs, I finally went to tackle changing plugs tonight.

PLEASE...tell me I'm doing something wrong. I turned that stinkin' socket for over an hour on ONE plug, and it's still not out yet. It feels like it is turning. I can only get about 1/4 turn before having to reposition the wrench on the socket rig, but....over an hour's worth?? This is insane.

FWIW I bought standard NGK's to put in it...

You must be doing something wrong the best spark plug wrench to use on the magna is the one that comes with the tool kit.

Which wasn't with my bike when I bought it! I am using a socket from a friend's Nighthawk, fits the plug.

Nobody apparently sells the kit, much less the plug socket in it. I've tried dealers, tried looking online...no help. Grapevine Honda won't work on my bike because it's over 10 years old (nevermind they made this model to 2004) and D&S in Arlington wants outrageous amounts to work on it...but at least they'll work on it....

At this point it is now undriveable. I figure the plug has to be loose which means it won't run, if it's gonna take another few *U#$(*#!& hours to get swapped it rapidly becomes July before I get it running any better.

They are long threaded look at your new plugs and not that it will do you any good but I have the sparkplug socket from the tool kit if you want it when I get off the boat on the 17th.

The one out of my friends kit fits the new plugs, so I figured it oughtta fit to get the old ones out.

It feels like it is grabbing and turning. Once in awhile, it feels like it binds on something. But I can't tell if it is loose, I can only get about 1/4 turn at a time, but still it oughta have come out by now.

If you can get some kinda socket down there try spraying some WD40 or lube down the hole to break up the gum that is down there which is what is most likely causing the problem
