Today I started having difficulties shifting into neutral while I was stopped at a light.  Once the bike is turned off, it shifts into neutral just fine.  What's going on?  What do I need to do?  Help!

PS... It's not operator error. :D

Do you maybe have your cable adjusted to loose and not allowing the clutch to fully disengage.

How far away from being fully out does your clutch start to grab ?

I have had this issue since I replaced my clutch and upped the springs.. (Yes the clutch cable adjustment is good)
IF I rev the motor just a little, then I can get it into neutral.. At idle, not so much..

I sometimes bounce back and forth between 1st and 2nd looking for neutral, but I always attributed it to "my left foot"...

I'm with Allen on this one.  I had the same issue on my Magna and it was the clutch adjustment.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this.  You were right Allen, a simple adjustment worked.

You are the MAN!

All of you guys are awesome, thanks for answering my post and helping with this.

Got a question for you. As you know I bought my Magna last year. It had 7000 miles on it when I bought it. I've put over 4500 miles on it since. Lately, when I shift into first gear to start off. It will clunk into gear and move forward ever so slightly. When I shidt into second it clunks in as well. The clutch is grabbing about 1/2 inch from full out. I think it might be an adjustment issue. How do you adjust the clutch ?

There are two adjustments..
A fine adjustment which is at the left handle bar where the cable goes into the clutch lever. Loosen the big lock nut "it's round" and then spin the smaller inner nut.. Then when the clutch is where you want it, retighten the lock nut..

IF you run out of adjustment at the clutch handle, there is a Coarse on the left side of the engine where the cable comes out and actuates the clutch.

The clutch handle should have a little free play (the clutch handle moves freely about a 1/2" before starting to pull the cable) when properly adjusted.

A lot of magnas have a clunking noise when shifting into 2nd it's common adjusting the clutch may help some but I wouldn't worry about it. Also adjusting the chain and lubeing it will help and changing the oil will usually make it less clunky.

Thanx Jerry, I forgot about the clunk..

I have 80+K miles on my Magna, it's been clunking a long for quite some time.. (maybe 50K miles). Most Honda's are also know for clunking into 1st.. I would say , just get used to it..

It's better right after an oil change..

More recently, I've had several incidences of it popping out of 2nd gear while accelerating right after a shift out of 1st..
I attribute this more to me not lifting hard enough on the shifter, but is probably also showing some signs of wear..
