So, what's the story??

What kind of pipes are they (They are NOT stock)..
What happened to get them scratched up?
Did you re-chrome them, or did you buy some new/used ones?

I'd developed an exhaust gas leak on the left rear cylinder, so I needed to replace the crush washers. The pipes were on the bike when I got them and I frankly don't know exactly what the are. I'm thinking cobras, but again, I don't really know.
As for what happened, see story here.
Charles had some Harley pipes that look very similar, and I'd planed to replace my old ones with them while I had them off. Unfortunately, the Harley pipes turned out to be a little bigger. I didn't have room for them under the brace I made for my saddle bags. Fortunately, four of the Harley pipes were fitted with shields that did fit.
I cleaned my old pipes up as well as I could with steel-wool, magic eraser, and Mothers's chrome polish. The shields I got from Charles covered the worst of the scratches on my old pipes.
They won't pass as new with close inspection, but at a casual glance they're passable.
One of these days I'll just have to sink some money into the old girl and fix her up right, but for now she's presentable again.
I'd rather be outside than in.

those pipes looks like the ones you could get from JC Whitney while ago, not sure of a brand name though.

Well, first of all, the appearance difference in the bike is striking.  Good job.

Second, I have a set of pipes that look a whole lot like yours on the Magna I am trying to sell, so I was hoping, when I saw the pictures, for some ID on them.  False hope.  I like the way they sound, though, and they flow fast enough that the Dave Dodge jet kit, and a K&N filter, make it run really well.

Great job on cleaning her up.

I don't think those are Cobras. Here's my old 96 with cobras. However, I'm not sure if this was the only style for the Magna or not.
