And it is.

You can dine on a little rattlesnake.

Just read your plans, if I were able to make this I would probably go Saturday and make it an overnighter.

I don't "round up" rattlesnakes.  I kill 'em.  Immediately, if not sooner.  With whatever is available.  (I once killed one with a knot in the end of a rope.)

There were lots of 'em in the Panhandle of Texas where I grew up, but there don't seem to be many here in Central Texas.  Been here 11 years, and have never seen one.

I don't eat 'em.  But then, I don't eat possum or rat, either.

The trappers bring in trash cans of rattlers and dump them in the pits, the keepers of the pits walk around inside with the snakes.

In another photo you will see the men "Milking" the venom from the snakes, used for something but I can't remember what.

I went with a group of guys, met up with more in Abilene where we went to Buffalo Gap and had dinner at Perini Ranch Steakhouse a live working ranch among longhorns and such.

Dessert was on the house as we were skeptical of the house special, cheesecake with jalapeno jelly. We each had a bite and passed it down, good stuff.

Below are more photos of Perini Ranch, you can dine outside or indoors.

Lots to do around this area, in Buffalo Gap you also have a period correct museum

In Abilene you also have a newer Frontier Texas museum, interesting to go through.

The last one is at Perini Ranch, we went in to eat with no sign of livestock, only to come out and we were a bit surprised to see all the longhorns a few steps from our bikes.

Dave, didn't mean to hijack your thread but it does pertain to the area.

Information back and forth is always to everyone's benefit as long as it's true, Terry. I appreciate your feedback.

Gotta go on Sunday because Susan works on Saturday. Just a long day trip.

If you want the best Bar-B-Que on the planet try one of these in Abilene:
Harlow's or Joe Allen's.
When flying bombers at Dyess AFB those were our favorite Squadron lunch places.
Harlow's has a back room seating area that has examples of the nose art from our planes.  (Look for "Seven  Wishes", that was mine.)
The Round Up is a really big deal for Sweetwater.  I never went to one however; I'm with Lawrence when it comes to snakes of all descriptions.

That's good.

Weather may or may not shut the door on this one.
