Well, I bought the chain rivet tool. It cost $129, but will pay for itself. Sorry I did not get it sooner, Lowell.
Just want everyone to know so if they want their chain replaced at home I have the knowledge and experience to do it now, thanks to Phil and his guidance at the wrench session on Saturday. He knows his stuff!
It is real easy to do.

Bob I was busy and just barely got to peek in on your use of the rivet tool.  I know it will break a chain but will it allow you to break a chain and then remove a link and put back together?  Basically to shorten a chain that is in good condition but too long.

Yes, Greg, we had to do that to the chain that I put on. We broke a link and removed it to better fit the settings for a new chain. I think there is something wrong with the generic size being used for a replacement chain because they had to do that at the Metric shop the last time I replaced the chain.
