Has anyone piped up with repairs they want to do?

My radiator fan is not coming on. If I don't have this resolved by June 21st then this may be my wrenching project.
Easy check.. Turn on the key, Take the wire off of the Thermistor on the left side of the radiator (Back side). Touch it to "ground" - IF the fan comes on, the Thermistor is bad.. I replaced one and discovered how easy it was to verify..

BTW, IF you are ever on a trip and have this issue, you can just short this wire to ground and the fan will run constantly (which is better than never).. If you have the time and parts, you could put it on a switch so you could just turn it on when you are stopped...

Thanks, Hootman.

I actually did exactly that... The replacement thermo switch is on order from Partszilla (for $36) and should be here Friday. I went back with an OEM switch since the previous one lasted about 15 years. There are some aftermarkets that are cheaper.

In addition to my other road traveling goodies I am going to add a small pair of electrical jumpers to my bag of tricks just for things like this fan.

I'm hoping I can swap the thermo switch out quickly (put my finger over the hole) without losing a lot of coolant or needing to drain the system. Did you have to drain the whole system or were you able to switch them out with minimal loss?

No, did like you said... I would put on a pair of latex gloves before I started (if I did this job again).

Jerry,

I'd love to bring my ultrasonic cleaner and some aluminum safe degreaser if you want to clean your carbs. It should be big enough to clean the whole bank of carbs still assembled so you won't have to separate them. We may have to flip the carbs and clean them in two passes though. Rubber and plastic are supposed to be safe for the amount of exposure time to the cleaner.

Let me know if you want to do that.

I'm planning on being there.  If we have time, want to cut off the nut cages on the Valk.

Poor Valk. Doesn't know what that trip to the vet is really all about, does he?

Excellent +1
You are not paid for what you do, but rather for what you will do and when that time comes, you will be highly underpaid.

I'm thinking about coming down with Jerry.

I need to get one of my Super Magnas out of mothballs and get it running (carb job as well).

Bro, you have no idea. It's a very serious disease around this homestead.
