brake stopper arm

Just put on a new chain and sprockets and put my back tire back on and the brake stopper arm is now touching the tire.  I made sure the left and right side collars are in the proper place.  I aligned both drive train adjusters to the same mark on the adjuster.  Any one had this problem before?? do I try and bend the bar so it doesn't touch?  I have a 1996 vf750c.  Have changed the tires many times and never had this problem before.  I put the bolt in the brake cover then on the outside I put the cushion washer then the brake stopper then the washer then the nut and then the cotter pin.  I don't get what's going on.

Could you have put the brakestay on backwards or inside out? It's easy to do.

I second this. The brake arm has a slight offset. The head of the bolt that tightens it down should be pointing towards the rear of the bike.

I found the problem.  I didn't take the brake stopper off to the frame just off the brake assembly so I cant put it on backwards.  I actually did have the collars on wrong.  Makes a big difference lol.  Thanks for trying to help me though.  On the Brightside all fluids are changed, sprockets and chains are changed, and almost new shoes on the bike.  Im ready for the summer riding lol.
