Guys & Ladies,
I know this isn't a Yamaha site and forgive me if I'm telling you something everyone knew but me, but  I bought my wife a VSTAR 650 custom. It is purple, and no other bike we looked at felt as comfortable. (go figure) Any way, I put on a set of V&H Cruzer Slashcuts and a Kuryakyn Hypercharger. The Hypercharger came with a jet kit and instructions to use 122.5's with the V&H pipes. It also recommended a dealer/tech install the jets. I'm good at following suggestions, so I paid $186 to have them installed. the VSTAR runs like a Magna (nearly) but....... at steady throttle it stumbles and slobbers terribly bad. A Vstar web site I found says to put Dynojet 128's in with the V&H pipes and set the slide needles at the 5th groove(???). When I went back to talk to the dealer, he told me that jets from different mfg's would flow different even if the numbers were the same. ie: Dynojets 125 and Mikuni 125 are not the same size jets. The dealer offered to do the re-rejetting for 1/2 price, but even at $93 it can get expensive if we don't nail it this time. Maybe you all knew about the jets being different, but this was a new one on me and I wanted to pass it on before someone took their bike to a dealer and spent some big bucks with results that were less than expected.

Yeah they are different and I would suggest getting rid of the air injection system to I had a Vstar at one time I had put Hard Chromes on it and done the jets on it. They do require a little playing with the needle height but you should be close when they get the jets right....
It is not hard to do the jets on the Vstar.... just under the seat hehehe I even have my service manual at the house...

Hi Allen,
You have had more bikes than I have had wives. hehehe.
I'm going to have to meet you at Applebees some day and buy your lunch and learn some bike mechanical lessons. The air injection system you're refering to, is that for emissions? How does removing it affect the bike's performance one way or the other. I read about how to remove it on the Vstar site but nothing was said about why.

Well on the Vstar the air injection system is just that and yes it is for emissions the problem is that it causes a bit of backfiring and such on decel I don't know if you would gain any power by removing it but it sure does clean the area up and gets rid of all the pipes and hoses running all over.. another great addition is to lower the bike with cobras lowering kit it lowers the bike about 2 inchs after mootmag give me a holler I still have alot of my info..... I enjoy working on bikes well anything I can get my hands on lololololol ......
