I think I'll try it with the existing bulb 1st, it should work with either a LED or bulb..

Indeed it should -- presuming the "LED" is a "bulb replacement" designed to work from 12 volts.  An LED alone will need a series resistor to limit the current from the 12V flasher.

I just purchased a long strip of 12V leds.  I cut 3 of the off and solder leads to them.  I fish the leads through the blinkers into the wiring and splice into the desired function.  I put 3 each in the rear blinkers and create running lights and beef up the stop light with about 6.  makes a big difference.

Hey, Late, welcome to the party.  Your mod sounds intriguing.  I am easily confused, and don't understand if each of the LEDs on your "long strip" is meant to run from 12 V, or if the 12 V designation only applies to the entire long strip.  Do you connect the 3 in parallel, or do they come that way when you cut them off the strip, or are they wired in series?  Same with the 6.

Finally, do you have a link to your purchase of the long strip?

Thanks in advance...

The moot page on tips and tricks germinated this idea -poor man's running lights and the one right below it.  I then took it one more step and purchased a strip of 12v waterproof sticky taped leds.  3 was the magic number because that was what would fit in the amber running lights on my 3G AND not wash out the blinker when I was turning.  Don't know how any leds are in that strip, a bunch for sure.  These are the ones used for outside decorations on trees and such but a 12v transformer is required.  There are resistors for each led that steps it down fro 12v.  The whole strip will light up when I put the booster box on them.  Pretty cool and blinding.  I chose white/clear because I'm cheap and didn't want to buy 2 strips.

I thought you were in Allen just a couple miles south of me but that is hoot.  I was going to bring the 3G down and some lights for you so you could see for yourself.  If you want some I'll cut a bunch off and send the to you.  pm the address.

I'll pop the amber lens tomorrow and shoot some pics of the installation.  You'll have to imagine how threaded the leds to the appropriate wire.    Spent yesterday and today taking apart the entire rear end of a new to me v65 to clean the aux tank.  That is some feat of Japanese engineering.  They knew their geometry for sure or did a lot of do overs to get that sucker to fit.  I've had my fill of scooters for right now but at least it's all back together with no parts remaining and it purrs.  I'll post pics tomorrow.

Found the before and after of the amber blinker mod to include the led running lights.  Although terrible pics, it's easily apparent the improved visibility for night riding with the running lights.

Hey, Late,  thanks for the clarification.

FYI, I am in Austin, and Hoot is is Flor-a-duh...

There is someone that has a 3G and lives in Allen TX, just a couple miles south of me.

OK.. I received my new LED dash lights..
I have installed the Neutral and High Beam lights. I used green and  blue LEDs respectively.
Previously, I could not see my high beam light during the day.. Probably not a big issue, but since I like to run on brights during the day (makes you more visible) I wanted to be able to see it..
I've attached a picture.. Pictures never show lights very well..
SO, the Brights Light is now about the same intensity as the Side Stand light in the Tach..
It may be just a bit bright at night, but.. I don't run my brights that much at night.

The Neutral Light is a little intense, but how often is your neutral light on while driving.. NOT!! So, that should not be a problem..

I have both a white and Amber LED that I can use in my Turn Signal light, but can not install that yet as I need to deploy Lawrence's expert plan to make that work.. AND I haven't ordered the parts yet.. SLACKER ALERT!!!

Like I said, cameras suck for pictures of light bulbs..
In a garage, during a tropical storm (not much sun!)
I believe they will be fine..
Gotta get the blinker indicator working .. Very Dim since I installed the LED's in the front turn signals (rear already LED)

Installed the 2 diodes according to Lawrence's instructions and BINGO.. Turn Indicator works as it should.
Just to document this.. The connector for this install is behind the steering neck, under the front part of the tank.
I did not have to pull the tank to get to it, just the right side plastic neck cover.
The two wires coming from the bike (not from the indicators) is orange and light blue (orange being closest to the retaining plastic tab and the blue being in one of the corners. (6 wire connector).
I cut both the orange and blue wires and soldered each (on the bike side) to a diode lead (away from the white stripe), then slid heat shrink down (installed before soldering) and covered onto the diode. Then the orange wire at the connector went to both of the diodes other leads (twisted together).
I then took the blue wire from the connector side and grounded that wire.

IF you follow this, and your LED indicator does not light, you need to turn the bulb around in the socket.

This is so you can run LED front blinkers, correct?

So you can run ALL LED blinkers..
Honda has two hot wires going to the turn indicator (there is only on lamp for this) the electicity flows threw the bulb and crosses over to the other side indicators and finds ground thru the non-blinking bulbs..
This does not work when the bulbs are replaced with LED's..
