Centerstand Surprise

So I installed the Cyclistic Center Stand many many moons ago.  At the time, after my first chain cleaning, I could only think "WHY didn't I do this sooner!?!"

I've loved it since-I'm a high mileage rider/touring rider.
On my way to get a better view of the recent eclipse, I had a long a difficult riding day thanks to a very scenic detour through Vermont (oops-but the Rainbow was electric).  But it also meant dealing with NYC metro traffic.   The next day, finishing the ride south, was no better-I was one among many on the highways wanting to see the eclipse.  an 8 hour ride day ended up being 12.

At the end of the day, putting the magna up on the center stand for chain lube, something was odd.  I was on soft, pine needle covered ground.  Rather than force it I stopped.  I was tired and frazzled.  I elected to look into it in the morning.

And I was surprised to find a break!  The footpad portion of the steel was literally tearing off, just below where the lever you put your foot on to move it was connected   (sorry no pics just yet).  I removed it and am in the process of bending it back to shape; I will re-weld it and repaint it once I know it fits.  It's a trial and error process.  I can only imagine the process Dobie went through to develop this great product!  And I am very grateful for it.  its been superb.  My intuition is that I was so frazzled at the end of the riding days, I didn't have the bike upright, putting all the weight of the bike on that one side.

Anyways.  Anyone want to head up to New England?  Great riding (on road and off!) in these parts!

What a story, I still have my center stand yet to be installed. Where are you at these days? The north east is an area I want to ride at some point, right now is not the best of time. The weather is probably not too bad right now.

Terry, I'm on the VT/NH state line (the upper valley of the Connecticut River).  About halfway between Laconia and Americade bike weeks!
Yesterday we had high in the upper 70's, overnight down to 50.  Foggy mornings.  Typical weather up here!  Everything is green, lots of places to swim, oh, and yes the roads are amazing!  Once I get settled (looking to be a first time home buyer  ) I hope to be open to having guests who need a 'home base' to explore.  I need to give you a call soon to find out what the rear Progressives are costing these days... some of the roads up here do show winter wear haha

Terry, I'm pretty sure I currently have stock length 412s and I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade more.  Sure wish they were rebuildable though.
