Hello Im from Ohio and I own an 84 VF500C. I have noticed my water pump leaking. At first I thought it was from the o-ring seal around the cover. Changed it. Rode it. Came back to the garage to check and it was still dripping. I changed the lower lines and used real hose clamps in place of the wire ones from Honda. Still leaking off the bottom of the water pump. I stuck an mirror under it while running and noticed a stream of coolent coming from the "weep hole" on the pump. Where and how can I replace this pump? Is it rebuildable? Honda says it is discontinued. This Magna only has 3100miles on it. I would hate to think that the whole bike is junk if I cant replace an 80 dollar part! Any information would be extremely helpful! Thanks

Yep the bushing in the pump is going out.  This is usually the result of incorrect coolant with silicates and phosphates being used, especially on a low mileage bike.

can I buy a rebuild? I called the powersports pro and they list them, but do not have any, and cannot get them. Yes the wrong kind of fluid was used no doubt. Expensive mistake.

Somebody out there makes them; I'll do some research and find one for ya.  I'm tied up 'til late tomorrow, but I'll look around tomorrow night.

Wow, I can't seem to find one either.  However, after a lot of research it appears the only differance between a water pump for a vf500c and a vf750c  in the length of the drive shaft on the pumps.  I would look into a pump for a 750c magana with the possibility of modifying the drive shaft length on the pump to fit the vf500c.  There is a way around this problem, and we will figure it out.  It may however take a little leg work on your end and a machinest if your not comfortable modifying the part your self.  Another point of contact for this problem would be Dave Dodge, the Honda V Four King.  he should be able to get you the exact measurements of the shaft lengths and verify the rest of the pump assembly is the same.  Here is his email addy.....

OK, the rumor I'm getting is the VF500c magna water pump is discontinued; however the VFR 500F intercepter water pump is still in production, which is good because it is the exact same pump under a different part number.  So in theory all you need to do is order a pump for the VFR500F.

Here is one on ebay with other parts for a VF500 C? F?: http://tinyurl.com/grjbs

and one for an Interceptor: http://tinyurl.com/ggl97

If anyone knows where a parts fiche for the VF500F is that I can download please let me know, that is one I don't seem to have.

Man you guys are great! So the VF500F water pump is the same exact part as the 500C's? Makes no sense as to why Honda would list it under a different #.  I found a good parts diagram for the 500F at www.hdlparts.com maybe it can be downloaded.
