I doubt Garmin is going to be of any help even if you can get them on the phone.  I've heard of several of these unlock code nightmares before.  Garmin has no way to know if you are legit or not and I think the only way to get a valid unlock code is to purchase the software again.  The unlock code does not reside on the install disc, and installing the software and unlocking it are separate operations.
