I have a 97 magna and recently took a slow spill. bike wasn't hurt too bad except for the speedometer. the glass cover is cracked and the metal ring that holds it in place is all bent but the speedometer still works. anyone know where i can find the parts to fix it cheap or am i better off trying to find aftermarket gauges and replacing them?

Also, will the covers fit from an earlier generation magna speedometer?

Thanks

Well first off I hope you are Ok as far as the gauges go I don't know weather they sell the front glass and bezel you are probably going to have to find a new gauge Ebay may work have not seen many on there..... Someone on here may have one..... Oh and welcome to the club

Check out www.hondaparts-direct.com for good prices on new OEM stuff.

For an all out replacement of the guages with something else try https://www.electrosport.com/electrosport_speedo_2700.html

Welcome aboard. Glad your OK. Re-think the accident over and over in your mind and try to figure out if you did something wrong or what you caused it so you can avoid it next time.

Good luck with the repairs and let us know what you end up doing.

Well it was raining pretty heavy so i couldn't see very well, and i was making a left at an intersection when I rode over one of those 10x5 steel plates they use to temporarily cover a hole in the street. Well, i was in a lean and as soon as my back tire hit the plate, it started spinning out and the bike fish-tailed to the right. i got to the end of the plate and i wasn't down yet and i maybe could've held the bike up, but now i was pointing towards oncoming traffic on the left. i figured it's better to take the lesser of two evils so i dumped the bike. actually, i didn't figure much of anything... just got scared and tried to get off the bike quickly.

The irony is I just bought a new Icon armored jacket and was wearing a full-face as well which i never do. got up without a scratch but the bike has some scratches in the tank, i broke off the mirror and clutch lever, and ground down my jardine peg and grip. and of course the speedo is mangled. but i'm alright so everything else is BS in my opinion. I would like to get it fixed though.

MagnaMan

Yeah. The rain is a real tough one. I ride like an old lady and try not to lean at all. I bet that the steel road plate as almost as slick as glass when it was wet. It would be tough to turn across that thing.

You are lucky you had your gear on. Another thing I recommend are the engine guards for the Magna. I fell over once in gravel. I hit really hard, but my jacket and armored pants protected me and the guards saved a lot of the stuff on the bike not to mention my leg.

If your tank is still working then you can probably just use it while you're watching ebay or checking with motorcycle salvage yards. That way you can look for a bargain while still riding.

Actually, i was pretty lucky because the tank is scratched but not dented so i'll refinish it over the winter.... i was looking to take off the honda decal anyway.  i already fixed the lever and mirror so the only thing i really have to fix now is the speedo.

by the way, thanks for the replies

MagnaMan

Wow. You got lucky on the tank. That's great.

You're certainly welcome for the replies. There's a lot of good people around here willing to help and no one cops an attitude like some of the other forums. :)

Be sure to let us know what you do on the guages. I'll be interested in what you think of the digital ones if you go with those.

I agree dont try and find an entire new/used unit, get the broken parts from Honda Direct or www.partsfish.com or other such outlets.
