I need some recommendations on places to get a front tire mounted in the Houston area.  I live on the south side of Houston (Pearland), so if anyone knows a reasonable place please let me know.

Note that I will take suggestions for the Houston area, but if anyone does know a south, or central, located place that would be best for me.

Thanks, Rod...

I don't know anywhere on the south side of town.  But if you manage to make it to the other side of town Motorcycles Unilmited is very reasonable.  I had the front done on mine and it was $13.00 for the mount and ballance.  They are on 1960 a couple mi west of I45.

James had his done on the south side somewhere. Maybe he will see this and post it.

Was the place I had it done on my front tire. Dunlop for 99.00 plus 30.00 for installation. Improved the handle a lot. Not too far from Pearland.

Kerry, thanks, that's definitely a good price, but for me it would take $20 in gas for the round trip...  Guess I need family, or a girlfriend, or another wife on that side of town :-)

James, thanks, I did  find these guys when doing a search.  If you bring your own tire, it's 32.50 to mount and balance.  I bought my tire (front K555) from Phatperformance for $80, so it looks like I am still ahead some and they're not too far away.

It still annoys me that we have to pay $30 for a mount and balance.  They should at least provide a cigarette after a good screwing like that ;-)

Thanks all.

Is that $32.50 with the tire off the bike?  If so then that's not too good. You might be better off bungie strapping your new tires on the back of your Magna and riding up to Moto Unlimited. They only charge $40 per if the tire is on the bike. If you're going to pay $32.50 for pulling it, save yourself some trouble and get it done for $40. :)

Jesse,

That's with the tire off the bike (hence my need for a cigarette :-)).  I had called a couple of the dealers and they wanted around $30 for it, off the bike of course.

Ya know, if it was a nice ride up to 1960 from my house I'd take your suggestion in a minute, but unless I take the scenic route through Austin, it's nothing but a slab ride...

Unless I hear of a better deal, then I'll probably just take it to Pasadena (closer to the house) or to Stubbs (closer to work).  Annoys the hell out of me, but at least then I can vent on some poor unsuspecting service manager.

Or you goto the local shop or Cyclegear and buy tire Irons and do it your self lolol I save lots of money that way and it only takes about 5 mins after the wheel has come off the bike give or take..... It's not that hard just not a clean job heheheheheh.

Also for everyone FYI the shop in Pasadena is moving down the road a ways and will not have the salvage yard anymore

If you decide to ride up to Motorcycles Unlimited.  Let me know.  You can come over to my place witch is 5 min from them and pull the tire and we can run over and have it mounted whlie we wait.  Then go back to my place and put it back on.

All, thanks for the info.  Kerry, thanks for the offer, I'll let you know if it makes sense for me to do that.  I'm trying to figure out when I'll have the time to do either right now.

No prob.  They are open till Six during the week and I get off at Four.  I am going to be out of town this weekend, headed for Dallas on Val, but almost any time will work for me.  Just let me know.

I went ahead and took the wheel into Motorcycle Discount Tire, in Pasadena, on Friday.  I wanted to clarify what they charge, cuz I didn't hear it right, or they did not understand what I asked.

If you buy the tire from them, mount and balance is 7.50.  If you bring the bike to them, buy their tire, and have them change it out, it's 32.50.

If you bring the wheel to them, it's $25.  That's reasonable in my mind.

Now, I bought the tire from Phatperformance for 80, then the mount was 25, for a total of 105.

If I bought from them, the tire was 100, plus 7.50 for mount and balance, plus I'd have to pay tax on the tire, for a total of about 115.  Now, they would stand behind the tire if there was a problem, so that's a good thing.

My next tire, I'll give them a chance first.

... and now to prove it,,, I've found a screw in my rear tire.  From some research here and on the net, patching it does not appear to be a good idea.

Any comments, for or against?

It is a perfectly good rear tire.  That sucks!  Do the MC tire warrenties cover road hazards?  Or os that a car tire only thing?

Thanks, Rod.

I would only recommend a plug patch combo and would depend on where the puncture was located and how big.  If it is near the side wall at all I would replace, if it were in the middle of the tread pattern then I would probably plug patch it.

The screw is in the tread halfway between the tread centerline and outside tread edge.

So, it sounds like your opinion is that a plug-patch is OK for long-term use, assuming that the hole is not on the side of the tread.  Correct?

Thanks.
