Mechanic in Austin?

Hi all!

I'm wanting to take my bike in to get a look-over.  Does anyone have a mechanic or shop that they use and can reccommend in the Austin area?  Everything seems to be running fine but I'd like a trustworthy expert to take a look.

Also, are there other MOOTsters in the area, I would be happy to take one out to lunch if they could be the 'expert eye'.  Despite my eagerness to learn and perform maintenance on my bike, I'm still a novice and would like the bike to get a good looking-over by someone who knows what's what.

Thanks!

Gloveberg

Wesley, I'm just curious as to what is worrying you enough to want someone to look at your bike?  A 10 year run proved the Magna V4 to be one of the most reliable bulletproof engines around.  Is it the brakes or soemthing else?

Jimmy, I think he may just want a more experienced eye to look her over. The previous owner of his bike has done some bizarre things like completely remove the front turn signals, etc.

We gave James' bike a once over here right after he got it and there were quite a few quirky things done. The chain was so worn it had links removed so it still fit on the bike. The radiator cover and chain guard were missing. The shifter lever had been modified to be a heel shifter. There were some other things but those are the biggest I can remember.

My aplogies to Wesley.  I thought he was just talking about a regular Magna, not a "modified" Magna.....lol

Yeah, sometimes you never know what people have done to make things better (in their eyes anyway    )

Btw, how in the hell do you make the shifter into a heel shifter anyway?

On James' bike they had tack welded another shifter arm onto the back of the shifter pivot. I guess you could concievably step on it to shift up.

Yeah it was kind of funky looking but he had a heel toe shifter on the Magna. It was welded on like Jesse said among other things we found!!!!
But like Greg said we will be in the area at Koyote Ranch for the weekend of 27th to the 29th so come on out and we will sure have a look at it and give it the once over for ya!!!!! :D

Over an inch of weld is not a tack weld, A tack weld is a small spot put there to hold the piece until it's welded. The rod was temparary to see if the forward controls would work. They do. I told brad and James it would look better If it was replaced it with a solid piece. I didn't find any forward controls for an 87 so I made my own and they worked just fine. Everyone doesn't have a pocket full of money to spend on chrome parts so we do what we can with what we got. Sorry it don't meet your approval..

Yeah. Sorry for the confusion, Charles.

I was talking about Jame's 3rd gen. Magna. That's why we were talking about the chain being too short and the missing chain guard. The super has a shaft drive right?

Yea I bet I could make Friday the 27th.  It would be great to meet you guys and have some friendly experts look over the bike.    Jesse I think you have my bike confused with someone else's regarding the front turn signals, since they are currently attached and functional :)  However, the bike has had quite a few things done to it here and there, like the larger rear tire, Jardine exhaust, relocated rear turn signals, etc.  It would just give me piece of mind to have an expert eye look it over and give it the MOOT Seal of Approval  8)   But yea Gloveberg, other than that, I do definately feel very confident in the Magna's reliability.  I am a big, big Honda fan.

So where is this Koyote Ranch and what is the occasion?

MagnaMan

You're right, Wesley.  I was thinking of Justin's bike. Check out his signature pic. It has no blinkers! Crazy,  huh?
