Working on Carbs can be Draining . . .

Got my 95 (non-running) magna to Dallas.  My uncle knows a mechanic he uses there, but before I take it in we called and the mechanic said that to save time and money we should drain the carbs.  He said it was simple . . . but he is a mechanic (its always easier when you know what you are doing).

Are there any tricks, tips, or speedbumps I need to be aware of?  Will the service manual assist in the operation or is there another book that will help?  Thanks, dc

Some carbs have drains on the float bowls so that you can let a lot of the fuel out. I'm not sure if the 3rd gen Magna has them or not. Anyone else?

there are 4 slot screws (one for each carb) under the float bowl chambers. you will need a long (9-10") slot screw driver, and can access the screws from the OPPOSITE SIDE of the carb. In other words, the right hand carbs are drained (screw loosened) from the left side looking in to the center of the carb bank. I put an old rag under to catch the little bit of gas that comes out. Have done this every year; no residue in my carbs, I hope!
